Pay/Benefits at a Glance:

Pay range is between $23.00 and $29.35 per hour. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

Fred Finch Youth & Family Services partners with individuals and communities to provide culturally responsive services that cultivate mental and physical resilience and wellness.

What You Will Do The Residential Counselor is responsible for the day-to-day care and supervision of teens with special needs in a crisis home program setting. The Residential Counselor provides high quality care and ensures the safety of participants, staff, and site in accordance with Community Crisis Home regulations, program philosophy, agency policy and accreditation standards. The Residential Counselor helps with the implementation of the treatment/behavior plans for each participant in collaboration with an experienced multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications: Experience

A minimum of six (6) months experience providing direct care to individuals with developmental disabilities who have challenging behavior service needs. Become a Registered Behavior Technician within 12 months of initial employment (must complete online courses within a contiguous, 180-day period) or be a Qualified Behavior Modification Professional.

Demonstrated knowledge of the developmental stages of the population served.

Demonstrated ability to utilize de-escalation techniques that align with the trauma informed care model as part of intervention strategy for working with participants in crisis who are responding to triggers/stressors and/or demonstrating early indicators of distress.

Demonstrated cultural responsiveness in working with diverse families and communities.

Knowledge of the autism spectrum and characteristic of individuals with autism.

Knowledge of learning theory and behavioral principles and techniques.

Clear understanding of the distinction between therapeutic and social relationships and demonstrated ability to maintain appropriate relationships/boundaries.

Ability to create written documentation that is legible, clear, and concise.

Ability to maintain positive morale and unit cohesion as evidenced by maintaining a cooperative and flexible attitude toward coworkers, showing adaptability to change, exhibiting effective communication and interpersonal skills, and taking initiative to solve problems.

Ability to set priorities and reacts appropriately to emergency situations.

Clean driving record: current CA Driver’s License required, or the ability to obtain within 10 days after hired.

Basic computer and keyboarding competence with the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and/or competency with electronic clinical documentation systems.

Preferred

B.A. Arts/Science Degree.

Two (2) years of related work

A minimum of one (1) year experience with intellectually/developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed youth.

A minimum of one (1) year experience with residential or wraparound programs

Knowledge of DTT, PRT, and PECS.
