Job Summary

The Regulatory Affairs Specialist ensures compliance of all food and beverage products with U.S. and international regulatory requirements. This role supports domestic and export operations, ensuring products meet foodservice labeling, formulation, and documentation standards. The position partners closely with Quality, R&D, Supply Chain, and international distributors to maintain compliance across diverse markets.

Major Job Functions

Monitor and interpret FDA, USDA, FSMA, FTC, Codex, EU, CFIA, and other global food regulations. Ensure compliance with foodservice labeling requirements (ingredient statements, nutrition facts, allergen declaration, country of origin, handling/storage instructions). Manage export documentation, including Certificates of Free Sale, Certificates of Origin, Product Information Sheets, and other government-required documents. Support organic, Kosher, Halal, Non-GMO, and bioengineered food disclosure requirements as applicable. Review and approve domestic and export labels for accuracy and compliance with U.S. and importing country regulations. Verify that nutrient content and marketing claims (e.g., “No Preservatives,” “Fortified with Vitamin C,” “100% Juice Blend”) meet local and international standards. Maintain regulatory-compliant label templates tailored for foodservice customers. Provide guidance to R&D on ingredient and formulation compliance for target markets. Review new product concepts against U.S. and international market regulatory requirements. Support product registration and approval processes for international customers/distributors. Manages and maintains formulation, ingredients and packaging documentation and supplier document reviews. Serve as company liaison with regulatory agencies (FDA, USDA, state authorities) during inspections, audits, or inquiries. Communicate regulatory requirements to international distributors and customers to ensure smooth import approval. Coordinate with customs brokers and export logistics teams to resolve documentation or compliance issues. Manages and maintains customer databases Train internal teams (R&D, Marketing, Operations, Customer Service) on domestic and international regulatory requirements. Stay up to date on emerging food safety, labeling, and import/export regulations. Recommend process improvements for compliance systems, labeling workflows, and document control. Creates, manages and updates product specifications and NFP as necessary Required Skills/Abilities/Education

Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, Regulatory Affairs, or related field. 3–5 years of experience in regulatory affairs, compliance, or quality assurance within food & beverage manufacturing. Strong knowledge of FDA food labeling regulations, USDA standards, FSMA preventive controls, and allergen regulations. Experience with international food regulations (Codex, EU labeling rules, CFIA, Asian/Latin American import requirements). Familiarity with export documentation and working with customs brokers. Detail-oriented with ability to interpret and apply complex regulatory texts. Excellent organizational, communication, and cross-cultural collaboration skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with ERP, LIMS, or regulatory compliance software preferred.
