Bilingual Recovery Counselor - Employment Specialist (ACT Aspen) Base pay range: $24.28/hr - $27.92/hr. Mon - Fri, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. $1,500 sign‑on bonus. Logan Square location. This role requires a car.

The Bilingual Recovery Counselor will assess clients’ personal, medical, emotional, social, and environmental situations to plan a treatment course through home, community, and office visits in English and Spanish. They will provide individually‑based motivational treatment and support to assist clients in recovery from mental illness, and link them to community services as needed. The position requires client‑centered, strengths‑based, trauma‑informed services for clients with severe mental illnesses and co‑occurring substance abuse/addiction disorders using a harm‑reduction approach.

Responsibilities

Assess client’s personal, medical, emotional, social, and environmental situation through visits in English and Spanish.

Coordinate creation of an individual recovery plan with the client, support system, and other care providers.

Complete daily progress notes and other documentation timely in Trilogy’s EMR.

Document all services per policy (IMCANS, LOCUS, tracking forms).

Recognize opportunities to move clients to appropriate levels of care; provide referrals.

Assist clients in recognizing signs of de‑compensation, assess crises, and recommend stabilization or hospitalization if needed.

Provide psychoeducation, medication training and monitoring per policy.

Coordinate with nurse/pharmacy for medication accuracy and document on medication administration record.

Support clients in developing independent living skills (hygiene, housekeeping, nutrition, shopping).

Guide clients on applying for entitlements (SSI, SSDI, Medicare, Medicaid, LINK) in both languages.

Explain representative payee process and provide individualized money‑management services.

Accompany and transport clients to appointments and assist with housing, substance use, budgeting, social support, and medication issues.

Advocate on behalf of clients and empower them to self‑advocate when appropriate.

Communicate effectively within the multidisciplinary team.

Participate in daily team meetings and electronic collaboration tools.

Provide on‑call and crisis coverage as assigned.

Perform other related duties and/or projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Counseling or related human services field.

Bachelor’s degree in any other field plus two years supervised clinical experience in a mental health setting.

Bilingual in Spanish (required).

Licensed Practical Nurse under the Nurse Practice Act [225 ILCS 65] (optional).

Certificate of Psychiatric Rehabilitation from a DHS‑approved program or high school diploma/GED plus two‑year experience in mental health setting.

CRSS certification through IAODAPCA.

Family Partnership Professional certificate from IAODAPCA.

Occupational Therapy Assistant licensed under the Illinois Occupational Therapy Practice Act [225 ILCS 75] plus one‑year experience in a mental health setting.

High school diploma or GED and five years supervised clinical experience in a mental health setting.

Valid Illinois Driver’s License with reliable vehicle; $100,000/$300,000 auto liability insurance.

Ability to work evenings and weekends as directed.

Preference for experience with mental health and/or substance abuse diagnoses and community‑based services.
