Work Hours Monday through Friday, 40 hours a week with occasional evening, weekend hours and holidays. Hours may change based on business need.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in public affairs, communications, political science, business, or a related field.

Preferred Education

Master’s degree in public policy, Strategic Communications, or a related discipline.

Experience

Four years of experience in community engagement, public relations, government affairs, or stakeholder outreach.

Experience representing an organization in public settings and building relationships with external partners is essential.

Preferred Experience

Experience working with elected officials, chambers of commerce, nonprofit organizations, or civic groups.

Familiarity with regional dynamics and community issues within assigned geographic areas.

Prior experience in a public‑sector or government agency setting is a plus.

Substitutions

One year (30 semester hours) of education from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of work experience, up to a maximum of 4 years.

Licenses and Certifications

A valid Texas driver's license and satisfactory driving record are required.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift, transfer, push, and/or pull up to 35 pounds and sit or stand for long periods.

Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as needed.

Normal cognitive abilities to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies.

Role Summary In this role:

You will perform senior‑level informational and communications work as a Community Affairs Regional Representative, serving as the Comptroller’s local outreach presence across multiple counties.

Duties

Represent the Comptroller’s office at community, business, and civic events within the assigned region.

Build and maintain relationships with local officials, chambers of commerce, business leaders, nonprofit organizations, and other key stakeholders.

Provide feedback and report regional concerns, opportunities, and outreach outcomes to Public Affairs leadership.

Support planning and execution of local initiatives and events in coordination with the Community Affairs Coordinator and Public Affairs team.

Facilitate scheduling of information programs, conferences, seminars, workshops, and public hearings.

Connect taxpayers and constituents to the appropriate agency division in a timely and responsive manner.

Respond to general inquiries about agency activities.

Assist in staffing the Acting Comptroller at public events within the region.

Analyze content for accessibility and recommend changes to remediate accessibility issues.

Serve as a direct point of contact for community leaders seeking information or assistance.

Communicate the Comptroller’s priorities and programs to local audiences, ensuring consistent and accurate messaging.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Agency functions, policies, and procedures; news and communication media.

Editing and preparing informational material; design principles; publishing and broadcast industries.

Management techniques, statistical analysis processes, budget processes, and research techniques.

Editorial and design practices; effective communication and exchange of ideas.

Problem‑solving and critical thinking.

Research and prepare information, design communication plans, and prepare copy and scripts for websites and social media.

Maintain confidentiality and protect privacy of state employees, taxpayers, and members of the public.

Follow agency confidentiality, privacy, and information security policies.

Appropriately store, secure, and protect sensitive records in accordance with the agency’s certified Records Retention Schedule.

Use discretion and appropriate judgment when communicating confidential information.

Work with others to achieve common goals; adapt to changing workplace demands; meet the needs and expectations of internal and external customers.

Be dependable, meet deadlines, and produce high‑quality work.
