Geotechnical Lab Technician

We’re looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Geotechnical Lab Technician to support a variety of geotechnical, construction materials testing, and environmental projects. In this role, you’ll perform laboratory testing and analysis on soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregates, and other construction materials to verify compliance with industry standards and project specifications.
Position Overview Working in a controlled laboratory environment, you’ll play a key role in delivering accurate, high-quality test results that support the success of major infrastructure and construction projects. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and quality-driven, with a strong focus on safety and precision.
Responsibilities
Perform routine laboratory testing on construction materials, including soil, concrete, and other construction materials following ASTM, AASHTO, and other applicable industry standards.
Ensure that project testing requirements are met and compliant with specifications, requirements, and company policies.
Accurately document and report test results, maintaining detailed, organized, and error-free records.
Assist with sample preparation, handling, and proper storage, ensuring sample integrity and traceability.
Operate laboratory testing equipment.
Follow strict safety protocols and laboratory procedures, including proper handling of materials and use of PPE.
Communicate effectively with lab supervisors, engineers, and field personnel, providing timely updates on test results, sample status, and any technical issues.
Perform additional duties as assigned, supporting the laboratory team, field technicians, and project managers as needed.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical coursework in engineering, geology, construction science, or related field preferred.
0-3 years of experience in construction materials testing, geotechnical laboratory work, or related field (prior laboratory experience preferred).
Commitment to workplace safety, following OSHA and company safety protocols, including use of PPE.
Basic computer proficiency, with experience in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and Field Data Collection software preferred.
Ability to read, write, and interpret procedures, manuals, technical documents, and reports related to construction materials testing and laboratory protocols.
Mathematical skills sufficient for basic calculations in all units of measure.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, with ability to collaborate with colleagues, supervisors, field personnel, and clients.
Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Detail-oriented and quality-focused, ensuring accuracy in sample preparation, testing, and documentation.
Ability to work independently with initiative to solve routine lab challenges.
Physical ability to lift 35–75 lbs, stand, walk, and operate lab and field equipment for extended periods.
Reliable transportation.
Travel Requirements
Occasional travel up to 10% for off-site meetings, training, or company events.
Physical Demands
Ability to lift and carry 35–75 lbs over distances up to 75 ft.
Ability to stand, walk, drive, and operate lab equipment for extended periods.
Use of hands and arms for typing, handling samples, operating instruments, and testing procedures.
Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, pull, kneel, climb, balance, lift, carry, and push as required.
Ability to communicate effectively in lab and field environment, including use of PPE.
Ability to see and smell with adequate vision.
