Nuclear Facilities Engineer 3 $125,200 - $211,300 Within this job, successful candidates will have the opportunity to support LANL's mission by serving as the subject matter expert (SME) for efficiently implementing nuclear facility engineering regulatory requirements including the Nuclear Safety Management rule, Department of Energy (DOE) Orders, American Nuclear Society Standards, national consensus codes and standards, recognized quality standards, LANL requirements, and federal, state, and local regulations. Nuclear facility engineers perform system engineering, design engineering, project engineering, safety basis and nuclear criticality functions at LANL. They define requirements for nuclear facilities, nuclear safety systems, nuclear operations equipment, nuclear operations procedures, nuclear test and acceptance requirements and nuclear quality requirements. Additionally, the nuclear facility engineers integrate with programmatic, operations, maintenance, document control, project management personnel to ensure nuclear facility requirements are met in a way that allows accomplishment of LANL mission. The selected candidate will identify and/or lead activities within a nuclear facility engineering discipline.
Nuclear Facilities Engineer 4 $150,300 - $260,800 In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the successful candidate will apply a broad and diverse knowledge of nuclear facility engineering principles and practices in the preparation of nuclear facility engineering deliverables. They will utilize nuclear engineering technology to accomplish work and continuously improves work processes to meet customer needs.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Technical Expertise Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated technical experience in design, systems or project engineering: calculations, work planning, control methods, industry codes/standards, maintenance techniques, construction methodologies, technical baseline maintenance, troubleshooting operations-based engineering problems, as well as the demonstrated ability to provide solutions for a wide range of complex problems in a nuclear or industrial facility operation.
Collaboration Demonstrated ability working collaboratively, including participating in the implementation and commissioning of new techniques and unconventional methods related to system engineering and the ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet tight schedules and accomplish project goals while effectively networking with peers across an organization, business unit, and/or institution.
Tools and Systems Advanced knowledge of and experience providing solutions for an extensive and diverse range of complex problems through the application of technology aided engineering tools (CAD, CNC, and CAE) Proven ability to program and develop unique software analysis tools to resolve complex issues.
Safety Demonstrated knowledge of safety issues or potential hazards relating to nuclear or industrial facility operation systems and devices and the use of design features to mitigate risks and hazards, including the demonstrated ability to define deliverable and/or lead projects related to safety.
Leadership Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with all levels of personnel and customers, as well as experience providing technical direction, mentoring, coordinating/monitoring the work of others, and serving as a role model for effective and creative technical leadership.

Education/Experience at lower level:
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 6 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired.
Education/Experience at higher level:
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 12 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired.
Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge of DOE standards applicable to facility design, operation, and maintenance. Knowledge of engineering principles and procedures, safety basis interaction, design guides, appropriate standards, and administrative practices as applied to DOE non-reactor nuclear and high hazard facilities. An advanced degree in a related field is preferred. Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desirable. Essential Job Functions

Work Schedule:
This position may require 24/7 coverage, which could involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees maybe eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.
Position commitment:
Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
