Summary: Under the general guidance of the Executive Director, Medication Access & Specialty Pharmacy Services, the Senior Clinical Pharmacy Specialist serves as the clinical pharmacy expert for the Specialty Pharmacy. This position is responsible for providing direct oversight of all clinical pharmacy operations within the Specialty Pharmacy, with a primary focus on ensuring compliance with Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC) and Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) standards, leading initiatives to maintain accreditation, and providing expert clinical guidance to the pharmacy team while prioritizing patient safety and optimal medication therapy. This position is also responsible for maintaining and reporting quality metrics as it pertains to patient management and clinical specialty pharmacy to continuously improve quality of care.
Accreditation Compliance Management:
Monitoring and maintaining adherence to all URAC/ACHC standards and guidelines related to pharmacy practices Leading the development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures to achieve and sustain URAC/ACHC accreditation Conducting regular audits and reviews to identify areas for improvement regarding URAC/ACHC compliance Preparing for and coordinating URAC/ACHC site visits
Clinical Pharmacy Practice:
Providing advanced clinical pharmacy services including medication reviews, drug therapy management, and patient education/counseling Collaborating with healthcare providers to optimize medication regimens and address complex medication issues Identifying and implementing evidence-based clinical practices to improve patient outcomes Develops and implements clinical pharmacy policies and procedures for the specialty pharmacy Identifies and coordinates oral chemotherapy pharmacy education programs Coordinates formulary reviews for specialty drugs, developing monographs, patient education handouts, and monitoring tools Assists with prior authorization process and patient assistance programs Performs all duties of a Clinical Pharmacist, Specialist and other tasks as assigned by pharmacy leadership when needed
Staff Leadership and Development:
Serves as the Senior Clinical Pharmacy Specialist for both Specialty Pharmacy locations Responsible for oversight of clinical decision-making aspects of the program and provides clinical guidance to staff and patients Manages the day-to-day clinical pharmacy workflow, issues, calls and routine visits as it pertains to patient management and quality standards Oversees Oral Chemotherapy Monitoring Program In collaboration with the Patient Access Supervisor assigns, prioritizes and evaluates the work of Clinical Pharmacy Assistants Mentoring other clinical pharmacists on medication management, patient care, and URAC/ACHC compliance Providing training and education to pharmacy staff regarding URAC/ACHC standards and best practices Overseeing specialty pharmacy staff performance and addressing any concerns related to patient care or compliance with pharmacy leadership Assists in identifying and correcting issues regarding performance measures for all specialty pharmacy staff
Quality Improvement Initiatives:
Leading quality improvement projects focused on medication safety, adherence, and clinical outcomes Analyzing data to identify trends and implement interventions to improve pharmacy practice Develops and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) related to clinical pharmacy services and URAC/ACHC compliance Ensures compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and clinical practice standards Provides guidance to team members regarding Quality Management Committee activities
Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
License Requirement License to practice as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of New York Education and Experience 1. Doctor of Pharmacy degree; or 2. Master's degree and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time clinical pharmacy or pharmacy-related experience; or 3. Bachelor's degree and the equivalent of three (3) years of full-time clinical pharmacy or pharmacy-related experience.
NOTE: 1. Incumbents must be credentialed as a member of the organization Medical Staff (Allied Health Professional) within four months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. 2. Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited school, college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.
Preferred Qualifications: Completion of PGY 1 Residency and PGY 2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency (or equivalent) preferred One (1) year of clinical pharmacy practice experience (in oncology) preferred One (1) year of Specialty Pharmacy practice experience preferred
