Department Summary

Position Summary:

Student Ambassadors serve as representatives of the university to prospective and current students, families, and the community. They play a vital role in recruitment by sharing their experiences, assisting with events, and fostering a welcoming environment for future Bobcats. Ambassadors help connect prospective students to campus life and provide insight into the academic and social opportunities available.

K ey Responsibilities: • Represent the university at recruitment and outreach events such as campus tours, open houses, high school visits, and college fairs. • Share experiences and answer questions from prospective students and families in a positive and professional manner. • Assist with planning, organizing, and staffing recruitment and student activities, both on-campus and off-campus. • Provide campus tours highlighting academic facilities, student resources, and student life. • Support admissions staff in outreach efforts, including phone calls, emails, and social media engagement with prospective students. • Serve as a role model by demonstrating leadership, professionalism, and enthusiasm for the university. • Participate in training and Student Services team meetings to stay informed about university programs, policies, and resources. • Assist in the Office of Student Services as needed, providing general support and participating in cross-training to ensure flexibility and a strong understanding of student resources. • Contribute to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all prospective students and their families.

Qualifications: • Must be a currently enrolled student in good academic standing with a

minimum 2.75 GPA

(cumulative). • Must have attended Ohio University for at least one academic year. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. • Positive attitude and enthusiasm for the university. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Reliable, punctual, and professional. • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Preferred Qualifications: • Prior involvement in student organizations, campus/community activities, or leadership roles. • Experience speaking to groups or working with diverse populations.

Time Commitment: • 10-20 hours per week on average, depending on recruitment needs. • Some evening and weekend availability required for outreach and recruitment events.

Job Profile

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:

Supports the admissions office by processing applications, assisting prospective students and other guests with inquiries, scheduling and conducting campus tours, and providing general administrative support in the admissions process. Represents and communicates the unique student experience at Ohio University. May participate in daily visits, large special visit programs, special group visits, individual VIP tours, and question-and-answer panels. May staff office front desks to welcome and serve campus guests. May conduct out-bound calls to prospective and admitted students family members. May assist with managing inboud emails.

Level Summary

Performs basic tasks and assists with administrative or operational duties under supervision. The role is entry-level and aimed at providing exposure to workplace environments.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Limited supervisory responsibilities. May supervise other student workers.

Fiscal Responsibilities:

No budgetary responsibility.

Problem Solving:

Addresses routine, well-defined problems under supervision.

Independence of Action:

Works under close supervision.

Communication and Collaboration:

Communicates primarily with supervisor and peers. Collaborates with team members to accomplish tasks. Communicates externally with prospective students, family members, and other influencers in the college decision making process.

Minimum Qualifications

Enrolled for classes at Ohio University during the current semester or immediate previous semester. Able to follow instructions and complete tasks within deadlines. Basic knowledge of office software and communication tools. Departments may have specific minimum requirements. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Working Condition/Physical Demands:

This role requires ability to provide walking tours of campus and escorts guests to various locations across campus, stand for extended periods of time to direct visitors and guests, sit at a desk for extended periods with extensive use of a computer. Occasionally, the job may require travel off-campus to attend meetings and programs.

Work Schedule/Location:

Responsibilities generally occur between the hours of 8 am and 8 pm Monday through Saturday. However, there may be some work required earlier than 8 am or later than 8 pm or on Sundays.
