Aeon for Ocean (AFO), a 501(c)(3), our mission is to educate and increase awareness about ocean conservation and marine life amongst kids and their greater role in spreading the message to drive action. We are looking for someone to help support and expand our community engagement.
Treasurer’s Position Description:
We're looking for a detail-oriented and responsible individual to join our dedicated volunteer team as Treasurer. The Treasurer is a key member of Aeon for Ocean’s Board of Directors, plays a crucial role in overseeing the financial health of Aeon for Ocean, ensuring transparency and accountability in our mission-driven work. The Treasurer provides strategic financial leadership, ensures compliance with all financial regulations, and works closely with the Executive Director and other staff to manage our financial resources effectively and contribute to the long-term sustainability of our organization. Selected candidates will be required to submit 2 references and must be able to commit at least 1 year.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Oversight & Management:
Chair the Finance Committee and provide leadership for the organization's financial strategy.
Oversee and monitor the preparation of financial statements and reports, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
Review and approve the annual budget in collaboration with the Executive Director and the Board.
Monitor the organization's cash flow, investments, and financial performance against the budget.
Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure sound financial management and internal controls.
Reporting & Compliance:
Present a financial report at each Board meeting, highlighting key trends, risks, and opportunities.
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial reporting requirements, including filing Form 990.
Serve as the primary liaison with the external auditor, overseeing the annual audit process.
Ensure that all financial records are maintained accurately and securely.
Strategic Planning:
Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making by the Board.
Participate in the development of long-term financial plans and fundraising strategies.
Identify and mitigate potential financial risks to the organization.
Board & Committee Engagement:
Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors and the Executive Director to achieve the organization's mission.
Recruit and mentor members of the Finance Committee.
Serve as a resource for other Board members on financial matters.
Attend and actively participate in
quarterly board meetings What you will bring: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline is required. Previous experience in accounting, finance, or a related field. A strong understanding of non-profit financial management, including fund accounting and state/federal regulations. Experience in strategic financial planning and budgeting. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and demonstrate strong leadership.
