Academic and Adult Re-Entry Advisor

POSITION SUMMARY The Academic Advisor position supports the student success and persistence of both traditional undergraduate and online adult degree completers, identified by the state of Missouri, by helping undergraduate students set and achieve academic, career, and personal goals, assisting with course selection and registration and orienting new students regarding key University systems (LMS, SIS, etc.). The academic advisor serves as a referral source to connect students to University services and resources that can assist them in achieving their goals. The academic advisor assists in the ongoing development and maintenance of advising resources and trainings. The academic advisor supports the student in reaching a graduation target consistent with their professional and academic goals. This position is partially funded through Missouri state funds and directly supports the College Reconnect Initiative and Missouri's broader goals for adult educational attainment.
Responsibilities: • Advise a caseload of students on matters including transitioning to college, registration, schedule development, goal setting, curricular and co-curricular engagement, academic progress, referral to services, and issues impacting persistence. • Serve as both an admission and academic advisor for adult undergraduate students from Missouri by offering individualized support for navigating the admission process, transfer credit evaluation and prior learning assessments. • Collaborate with Academic Affairs, Academic Units, Registration, and other campus resources to support advising relevant processes, procedures and work flows, including but not limited to student-centric course schedule development. • Facilitate connections to peer mentorship programs by utilizing recent graduates and community partners for adult re-entry students. • Conduct early alert outreach and academic support to students. Coordinate and execute special topic workshops that support the needs of students. • Serve as a liaison to academic areas, financial aid, registrar, admissions, housing, access services, tutoring, writing center, counseling services and other campus resources. Collaborate with these areas to improve student success and persistence. • Maintain detailed records and communicate regularly with student and campus partners on issues related to positive academic progress. Abide by FERPA regulations to uphold students' privacy. • Develop, maintain, and promote academic advising relevant resources, which may include social media platforms, website content, student success resources, and print materials for campus stakeholders. This includes student, faculty, and staff resources and training expectations. • Additional tasks may include committee work to support institutional priorities, departmental supports to support student success. • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: • Master's Degree in Academic Advising, Higher Education Administration, Education, Student Affairs, Psychology, Social Work, or other related degree. • 3-5 years' experience in the field • Prior experience in academic advising, admission, transfer credit evaluation or financial aid preferably at the collegiate level. • Strong oral and written communication skills. • Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations in order to apply inclusive advising strategies. • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. • Familiarity with College Reconnect Initiative or similar adult completion programs. • Background in data collection and analysis for program assessment. • Experience with online and hybrid learning environments. • Multilingual skills highly preferred. • Contributions to a climate that supports a diverse student body, serves first-generation college students, multilingual learners, and contributions to equity and social justice through their work.
