CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - New Braunfels (CSRH-NB) is a full‑service 94‑bed facility located in downtown New Braunfels. The Laboratory Supervisor, under the direction of the Laboratory Director and/or Laboratory Manager, coordinates and manages day‑to‑day operations of laboratory sections and shifts. The role serves in an administrative capacity with direct reports and is an exempt pay position. Responsibilities include program development, quality control, personnel management, budget monitoring, and compliance with regulatory agencies such as CLIA, TJC, CAP, and AABB.
Responsibilities

Provide day‑to‑day supervision of high, moderate, and waived complexity test performance by laboratory testing personnel.
Be accessible to address technical problems via on‑site, telephone, or electronic consultation with testing personnel at any time.
Ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, and standards as promulgated by state and federal agencies, the hospital, and other regulatory entities.
Plan, organize and coordinate the work activities of assigned section(s) and shift(s).
Maintain accurate attendance records for all associates and the department’s time and attendance.
Assist the Director/Manager in maintaining the laboratory budget, including monthly analysis and variance reporting.
Assist in associate performance conversations that drive merit increases.
Develop, implement, and maintain current procedural manuals for all tests performed in the assigned section(s).
Enforce all safety policies and procedures.
Research, evaluate and implement new and improved procedures, methodologies, instrumentation, and techniques as assigned.
Implement an appropriate Section/Shift‑specific Quality Control Program and maintain all applicable QC and Functional Verification records.
Monitor test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure acceptable levels of analytic performance and take corrective action when needed.
Maintain and troubleshoot equipment in the assigned section(s), initiate preventive maintenance, and coordinate with Biomedical Engineering or equipment manufacturers.
Prepare and submit routine or special administrative and technical reports by due dates.
Order and maintain inventories for all necessary supplies and reagents in the assigned section(s).
Train new technologists and technicians in assigned procedures and policies, and provide subsequent training on new or revised procedures.
Assist in designing, implementing, collecting, and analyzing performance improvement data and reporting.
Prepare and conduct in‑service education for assigned section(s) and shift(s).
Provide input on personnel decisions (hire, fire, transfer, interview, disciplinary) and document technical deficiencies.
Perform skills review and competency assessments and maintain appropriate documentation.
Oversee and enforce expectations of personnel in assigned section(s).
Participate in proficiency testing surveys; review results and maintain copies of survey records.
Coordinate and attend meetings related to policies, equipment, procedures, staffing, etc.
Utilize and maintain thorough working knowledge of the Laboratory Information System and its applications.
Demonstrate competence in assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the needs of the patient population served.
Appropriately adapt patient assessment and treatment methods to accommodate unique patient needs.
Process patient specimens with awareness of minimal pediatric specimen volumes when required.
Perform all routine and complicated laboratory procedures in the primary section with age‑ or sex‑specific considerations.
Notify and document critical laboratory values obtained.
Enter, verify, and record results of laboratory procedures.
Maintain confidentiality of patient information and do not disclose confidential data unless necessary.
Keep abreast of Medical Technology advancements through journals, seminars, and professional associations.
Demonstrate adherence to CHRISTUS Health CORE values.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Skills
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from a regionally accredited college/university, or equivalent years of experience.
Experience
5 years of experience as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Laboratory Technician.
5 years of full‑time primary experience in the specific section of responsibility required.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
Active certification or certification eligibility for MT (ASCP), CLS (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), MT (AMT), CLS (NCA/ASCP), or MT (AAB).
Work Schedule and Type
5 Days – 8 Hours per day
