Class Definition:
A Mechanical Maintenance Technician Supervisor II directs the supervision of mechanical maintenance and repair activities at a water or wastewater treatment plant or pumping station and integrates and coordinates these maintenance functions with those of other related disciplines. Work involves directing the activities of mechanical maintenance work units. Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior and work a conventional week, subject to 24‑hour callback for emergencies. Exposure may include chemicals, dust, and fumes, moving equipment, extremes of heat and cold, and noxious odors. Moderate physical exertion may be required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
Experience: Five years of repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment and related systems, including two years of supervisory responsibilities (disciplining, evaluating performance, and recommending hiring, firing, and promotion of others).
Equivalencies: Six months of additional experience may be substituted for each year of the high school or GED requirement. Completion of one year of the required coursework in a power mechanic or machine shop curriculum may substitute for six months of the experience requirement.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates: Valid Maryland class C noncommercial driver’s license or an equivalent out‑of‑state driver’s license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of maintenance and repair of complex mechanical systems.
Knowledge of safety standards and practices applicable to the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment and related systems.
Ability to analyze defects in mechanical equipment and related systems and to provide corrective measures for resolution of problems.
Ability to develop work procedures that will provide minimum interference with plant operations.
Ability to read, interpret, and review engineering plans and specifications.
Ability to maintain records and write reports.
Supervisory ability.
Ability to coordinate mechanical maintenance operations with other disciplines.
Ability to develop in‑service training programs for the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment and related systems.
Background Check:
Those selected will be required to authorize the release of criminal conviction information.
Probation:
All people, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six‑month probation.
Eligibility:
Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
Education Accreditation:
Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.
Selection Process:
