Through innovative research, patient care, education and community engagement, VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center is discovering, developing, delivering and teaching effective means to prevent, detect, treat and cure cancer and to making these advancements equally available to all. Founded in 1974, Massey was among the earliest cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). It is the only cancer center in the Richmond metropolitan region and one of only two NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the state, placing it among the top 4 percent of cancer centers in the country.
Responsibilities
Advocate, interpret, educate and counsel a group of patients specifically in Urology.
Manage the care of assigned patients in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to ensure high quality and comprehensive healthcare and ancillary services.
Serve as the single point of contact to assigned patients and caregivers.
Remain a support system to patients and caregivers throughout the patient’s treatment.
Use clinical/nursing knowledge and skills in the performance of job responsibilities.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire
Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible compact state.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Continued Employment
Current RN licensure in Virginia.
AHA BLS Certification.
Specialty Nursing Certification in either Nurse Navigation or area of specialty within one year of hire.
Experience
Minimum of three (3) years of relevant clinical experience in nursing, patient education, case management and/or navigation.
Previous experience in specialty area.
Preferred Experience
Previous nurse navigation or leadership experience.
Experience within an academic, teaching hospital.
Education
Required: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing.
Preferred: Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing.
Additional Position Requirements
May be required to work weekdays, evenings or weekends depending on assignment.
May be required to go to all VCUHS locations.
Physical Requirements
Lifting less than 20 lbs.
Prolonged standing, sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing, reaching, repetitive motion.
Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speaking clearly, write legibly, reading, logical thinking, fast paced environment, steady pace, able to handle multiple priorities, frequent intense customer interactions.
