Responsibilities
Teach and instruct individually and in groups the education of the Potawatomi language to the students.
Work with speakers and elders in all aspects of Potawatomi language.
Participate in gathering and organizing input from elders, tribal and community members for creating language learning materials.
Attend classes and trainings to continue language development.
Create and assist with compilation and publication of educational materials.
Participate in cultural activities.
Learn to use and understand the Potawatomi writing systems and documentation equipment.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
Forest County Potawatomi Tribal member is preferred or an enrolled member of any Potawatomi band or descendant of a Potawatomi Band.
Possess a passion to become proficient in speaking, reading, and writing in the Potawatomi language.
Willingness to travel and work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
Must be living a healthy sober life to work with our fluent elders.
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the Tribe’s insurance.
Must successfully pass all applicable background checks and drug screens.
Preferred Requirements
Associate’s degree in education is preferred.
Basic knowledge of the Potawatomi language preferred.
Ability to adapt your teaching methods to accommodate the various learning styles preferred.
