About the Role
We are hiring an Industrial Maintenance Technician to support operations at a specialty coating and surface‐ engineering facility in St. Paul. This facility operates advanced machinery used for thermal spray coatings, custom part fabrication, grinding, and precision surface treatments. The ideal candidate will ensure that all production and support equipment runs reliably, safely, and efficiently.
You ll play a key role in maintaining equipment and infrastructure so that the coating and machining operations stay productive and precise.
Key Responsibilities
Install, troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain industrial production equipment and facility systems.
Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance to minimize production downtime.
Maintain systems including:
Air compressors and compressed air distribution
Dust collectors, fume extraction, ventilation systems
Conveyors, indexing systems, semi‐ automated mechanical handling equipment
Grinding/dressing equipment, lathes, CNC/manual machines
Coating application machinery (thermal spray, robotic applicators)
Cooling & heat exchanger systems, chillers
Work with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, fluid power components, valves, actuators.
Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems and motor drives, both AC/DC, and voltage levels up to 480V, 3‐ phase.
Interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and equipment manuals.
Provide support for PLC systems / ladder logic troubleshooting (basic programming, I/O diagnostics).
Handle general building and facility maintenance tasks (wiring, plumbing, HVAC, pneumatic lines, basic structural/fixture repairs).
Fabricate and repair parts, tooling, jigs and fixtures, and work with machining and welding as needed.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, spare parts usage, and equipment performance.
Collaborate with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to suggest improvements for reliability, uptime, and process optimization.
Adhere to all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications & Requirements
Trade / technical schooling (mechanical, industrial maintenance, or equivalent) preferred, OR
High school diploma / GED with 5+ years of hands-on industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or coatings/metal finishing environment.
Proven experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electro-mechanical systems.
Hands-on experience in welding, machining (lathe, mill, grinder), fabrication, tool work.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair PLC systems, read ladder logic, and work with electronic control systems.
Strong working knowledge of electrical systems (single- and three-phase), motor control, VFDs.
Familiarity with maintenance of peripheral systems (HVAC, plumbing, gas systems) is a plus.
Strong recordkeeping, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to lift ~50 lbs, work overhead, and function in a production environment (noise, heat, etc.).
Self-motivated, able to work independently, prioritize tasks, and respond quickly to equipment breakdowns.
