POSITION SUMMARY:
Client is seeking a Telecom / Data Center Network Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide leadership and guidance on the design, documentation, and delivery of fiber infrastructure across our global datacenter portfolio. This role will focus on setting standards, design production, reviewing designs, and consulting with internal teams and external partners to ensure consistency, scalability, and quality in structured cabling and network fiber systems. The SME will act as a trusted advisor to design, construction, and operations teams, bringing deep technical expertise while enabling efficient project delivery at hyperscale.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide subject matter expertise on datacenter fiber infrastructure, including rack layouts, patch panels, trunks, cross-connects, and structured cabling systems. Produce designs, oversee and review design documentation prepared by production teams, ensuring compliance with client's standards and constructability in the field. Consult with construction and delivery teams to resolve technical issues, troubleshoot design conflicts, and guide construction administration activities. Lead the development and maintenance of design standards, playbooks, and Bill of Materials (BoM) templates to drive repeatability and cost efficiency. Partner with procurement and engineering teams to align material selection and volume purchasing strategies with client's global deployment needs. Collaborate across engineering, operations, and vendor teams to integrate fiber infrastructure into overall datacenter network and facility designs. Support innovation and continuous improvement in fiber design practices, focusing on scalability, maintainability, and lifecycle reliability. QUALIFICATIONS:
10+ years of experience in telecom or datacenter network engineering with an emphasis on fiber infrastructure. Strong expertise in structured cabling and fiber systems at scale, including design standards and documentation. Proven experience consulting on datacenter projects, including design production, oversight of design, construction administration, and vendor engagement. Proficiency with design software commonly used in datacenter and telecom engineering, including:
utoCAD for detailed design documentation. Revit or other BIM/VDC platforms for model-based coordination. Fiber management design tools. Microsoft Visio or similar tools for network diagrams and schematic layouts.
Demonstrated success in driving consistency and repeatability across large, multi-region infrastructure programs. Solid knowledge of industry standards and best practices for large-scale fiber deployments. bility to translate technical requirements into standardized documentation, BoMs, and design packages. Excellent communication and collaboration skills to guide internal teams and external partners. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with hyperscale datacenter deployments and global standardization programs. Familiarity with emerging fiber technologies and advanced optical connectivity solutions. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field. Industry certifications such as BICSI RCDD.
