Associate Consultant at Coalesce Management Consulting Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Transmission Planning Engineer to support system planning studies, modeling, and reliability assessments across high-voltage transmission networks. This role focuses on analyzing the performance, capacity, and reliability of existing and proposed transmission systems to ensure grid stability and regulatory compliance. The engineer will collaborate with internal planning teams, system operators, and project stakeholders to develop long-term transmission expansion plans and support capital investment decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Perform power flow, short circuit, stability, and contingency analyses to evaluate system performance under various operating conditions.

Utilize software tools such as PSSE, PowerWorld, ASPEN, or TARA to model transmission systems and assess network adequacy and reliability.

Conduct NERC-compliant planning studies to ensure adherence to regional reliability standards (e.g., SERC, MISO, or PJM).

Evaluate the impact of new generation interconnections, load additions, and transmission upgrades on system reliability and voltage stability.

Develop conceptual transmission plans, cost estimates, and expansion options to meet projected system growth and renewable integration needs.

Coordinate with operations, protection, and design teams to ensure study recommendations are technically feasible and economically justified.

Prepare and present technical reports, models, and study results for management, regulatory agencies, and external stakeholders.

Support strategic planning initiatives, including grid modernization, renewable integration, and capacity planning.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (Power Systems concentration preferred).

5+ years of experience in transmission planning, power systems analysis, or grid modeling.

Proficiency with PSSE, PowerWorld, ASPEN, TARA, or similar transmission system analysis tools.

Strong understanding of NERC and FERC reliability standards, planning criteria, and interconnection requirements.

Familiarity with load forecasting, generation interconnection, and renewable integration processes.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT certification preferred.

Prior experience with utilities, RTOs/ISOs, or transmission operators strongly preferred.
