Monday through Friday, 40 hours a week, with occasional evening, weekend hours and holidays. Hours may change based on business need.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in public affairs, communications, political science, business, or a related field.
Master’s degree in public policy, strategic communications, or a related discipline (preferred).
Four years of experience in community engagement, public relations, government affairs, or stakeholder outreach.
Experience representing an organization in public settings and building relationships with external partners.
Experience working with elected officials, chambers of commerce, nonprofit organizations, or civic groups (preferred).
Familiarity with regional dynamics and community issues within assigned geographic areas (preferred).
Prior experience in a public‑sector or government agency setting (preferred).
One year of education may substitute for one year of work experience up to a maximum of 4 years.
A valid Texas (or state of residency) driver’s license, current proof of automobile insurance and a satisfactory driving record.
Physical Requirements
Lift, transfer, push or pull up to 35 pounds for long periods; sit and/or stand for long periods.
Bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as needed.
Normal cognitive abilities for learning, recalling, and applying policies.
Maintain attention to detail despite interruptions and changes in environmental conditions.
In This Role You will be performing highly complex informational and communications work as a local outreach presence across Texas. Responsibilities include:
Representing the Comptroller’s office at community, business, and civic events within the assigned multi‑county region.
Building and maintaining relationships with local officials, chambers of commerce, business leaders, nonprofit organizations, and other key stakeholders.
Providing feedback and reporting to Public Affairs leadership on regional concerns, opportunities, and outreach outcomes.
Supporting the planning and execution of local initiatives and events in coordination with the Community Affairs Coordinator and Public Affairs team.
Facilitating scheduling of information programs, conferences, seminars, workshops, and public hearings.
Connecting taxpayers and other constituencies to the appropriate agency division in a timely manner.
Serving as a direct point of contact for community leaders seeking information or assistance.
Communicating the Comptroller’s priorities and programs to local audiences.
Performing other duties as assigned.
Additional Requirements and Expectations
Knowledge of agency functions, policies, news media, social media platforms, and communication tools.
Skill in editorial and design practices, computer usage, and effective information conveyance.
Ability to research, prepare content for websites and social media, and design communication plans.
Maintain confidentiality and protect privacy of state employees, taxpayers, and other members of the public.
Follow agency confidentiality, privacy, and information security policies.
Store, secure, and protect sensitive records in accordance with the agency’s certified Records Retention Schedule.
Work collaboratively to achieve common goals and meet expectations of internal and external customers.
Dependable, meet deadlines, and produce high‑quality work.
