Scope of Position
The Chief Engineer manages all engineering/maintenance operations, including maintaining the building, grounds, and physical plant with particular attention towards safety, security, and asset protection.
Position Requirements Minimum 3 years of progressive management experience in a luxury hotel preferred. Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing and electrical, required. Knowledge of hotel fire standards and procedures. Ability to work independently and exercise judgment to resolve personnel and production concerns that arise, with minimal supervision. Possess outstanding guest services skills and leadership capability. Responsibilities
Supervises Engineering day-to-day operations in the absence of the Director of Engineering. Manage Property Operations and Engineering budgets, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation. Assists in managing the physical plant including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical and life safety systems. Maintains and operates equipment at optimum effectiveness, efficiency, and safety. Establishes and manages an effective rooms maintenance program. Ensures compliance with all Engineering departmental policies, standards, and procedures. Manages department's controllable expenses to achieve or exceed budgeted goals. Select, order, or purchase new equipment, supplies, and furnishings. Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of facilities to determine the type of work required. Recommend or arrange for additional services such as painting, repair work, renovations, and the replacement of furnishings and equipment. Assists in effectively planning, scheduling, and evaluating preventative maintenance programs. Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring Associates; conduct performance appraisals, coach and counsel, progressive corrective action, motivate, develop, and train. Ensure Associates receive on-going training to understand their job tasks and guest expectations. Ensure all daily rehearsal meetings are conducted. Ensures on-going communication occurs in all areas of responsibility to create awareness of business objectives, awareness of expectations and recognition of exemplary performance. Provides feedback to associates based on observation of service behaviors. Supervises associate's ability to execute departmental and property emergency procedures. Perform any other reasonable duties as required by management. Education
High school diploma or GED; 4 years experience in the engineering and maintenance or related professional area; technical training in HVAC-R/electrical/plumbing. OR
2-year degree from an accredited university in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related major; 2 years experience in the engineering and maintenance or related professional area; technical training in HVAC-R/ electrical/plumbing. Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate in the English language. Second language is a plus. Must be a team player. Able to work flexible schedules including holidays and weekends and able to perform multiple tasks. Experience using software programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions. Physical Requirements
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. Must be physically fit to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and push carts weighing 100 pounds or more. Requires standing/walking/reaching and bending throughout shift.
