Payroll Specialist/Accountant
One of our major oil and gas clients is seeking a Payroll Specialist/Accountant to work on a 12‑month assignment in their facilities in Houston, TX.
Summary This role involves performing professional accounting tasks in either a staff or operational setting. In staff roles the focus is on financial analysis, cost monitoring, and supporting departments such as project management. In operational roles duties include preparing financial data, reports, payrolls, and maintaining records. The position works under general supervision, with assignments that are typically well defined and based on established methods. The employee is expected to work independently with occasional guidance and review. In operational units tasks follow structured policies and procedures, requiring thorough familiarity with relevant processes and standards.
Responsibilities
Assist in implementing approved accounting procedure changes with operating units and CCSD as required, including revision of related user manuals, forms and training assistance.
Compute, compile and process accounting data; examine, reconcile and monitor disbursements and associated accounting entries and support documents to assure compliance with established procedures.
Prepare data, calculations, statements, reports and computer input as required by specific job assignment.
Conduct special studies of limited scope, develop new or revised accounting procedures, test validity, present findings and recommend approval.
Investigate the significance of changes in account balances, overhead rates, construction costs and unit costs; identify contributing factors and summarize findings, conclusions and recommendations.
Maintain and control documents, ledgers, records and manuals as assigned.
Assist in review of systems change proposals developed in other departments to determine their impact on the Controller's Division systems, procedures and operations.
Advise supervisor and/or appropriate operating personnel of problems or unusual situations and provide recommendations for corrective action.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or Economics and one (1) year diversified accounting experience. Consideration may be given to a candidate with a high school diploma who demonstrates the ability to perform the assigned tasks, typically gained from ten (10) years of diversified accounting experience relative to the specific area of assignment.
Experience should include two (2) years work experience as a group leader or supervisor. Work experience should reflect progressively greater responsibilities.
Must be able to communicate and comprehend English accurately, clearly and concisely at a level required to perform the job as outlined.
Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies and standard business etiquette.
