Food Scientist
Job Description We are seeking a dedicated Food Scientist to join our Research and Development team. The successful candidate will be responsible for new product development, creating and testing product samples, and evaluating ingredients. You will also prepare correspondence and manage quality assurance and technical service duties.
Responsibilities
Conduct new product development, including preparing product samples in the lab for sauces, condiments, and other products.
Revise product formulas and conduct lab analyses on samples, including pH and NaCl levels.
Prepare documents for quality assurance and regulatory purposes.
Set up sample sensory evaluation tests and prepare samples for shipment to laboratories for analysis.
Attend on-site test productions at factories.
Search for and evaluate new ingredients, procure samples and necessary documentation, and maintain a filing system for new ingredients.
Maintain and replenish ingredient stock as needed.
Receive Certificates of Analysis (COAs) from manufacturing facilities and evaluate retained samples.
Organize and maintain product retained samples and storage.
Communicate effectively with factories and third‑party laboratories.
Essential Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Biology, or Food Engineering.
Proficiency in operating analytical equipment such as lab scales, salt titrators, pH meters, refractometers, viscometers, Aw meters, and moisture analyzers.
Skill in using benchtop cooking kettles, beakers, flasks, pipets, graduated cylinders, thermometers, and stirrers.
Ability to lift and move samples and ingredients.
Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, and percentages.
Ability to review technical documents and drawings.
Strong communication skills, including the ability to write detailed reports.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in food science or related fields.
Knowledge of blending techniques.
Work Environment The work environment is dynamic and involves the use of various lab equipment and ingredients. The role requires physical activity, including lifting and moving samples. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with factories and third‑party laboratories, ensuring a thorough understanding of technical documents and procedures.
Job Type & Location Contract position based out of Saint Louis, Missouri.
Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $30.00/hr.
