Upper Darby Township is seeking a Township Engineer to lead the design, construction, and maintenance of vital public works projects that support the Township’s growth and sustainability. Base pay range $95,000.00/yr - $110,000.00/yr

HR Generalist | People, Culture, & Growth Advocate Key responsibilities include overseeing the design and inspection of engineering and capital improvement projects, managing land development and grading permits, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The Township Engineer will also lead the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) program, prepare engineering plans and cost estimates, coordinate with contractors and regulatory agencies, and provide expert recommendations to the Township Council and Planning Commission.

Requirements:

Qualified candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. Applicants must also hold a current Pennsylvania Professional Engineer (PE) license and have a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in civil engineering, public works design, or municipal infrastructure management. Demonstrated experience in the design, inspection, and construction management of roads, bridges, stormwater systems, and sanitary sewers is required. Candidates should be proficient in preparing engineering plans, cost estimates, and technical reports, and have the ability to interpret and apply municipal land development regulations. A valid Pennsylvania driver’s license is required at the time of appointment.

Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree in civil engineering and prior experience working in local government or public sector environments, particularly with land development review, stormwater management (MS4), and capital improvement projects. Familiarity with permitting processes, GIS applications, AutoCAD or similar design software, and contract bidding and procurement procedures is highly desirable.

Applicants must be able to meet the physical and scheduling demands of the position, including attending evening or weekend meetings and conducting field inspections on active construction sites.

Schedule/ Other Information:

Monday through Friday; 9am to 4:30pm, some evenings and weekends

Pay Range:

$95,000 to $110,000 Annually
