Tarkett, a global leader in innovative flooring and sports surfaces is seeking a hands‑on Senior EHS Specialist for our plants in Dalton, GA. The Senior EHS Specialist will administer environmental programs in multiple locations, and help develop, establish, and maintain an environmental health and safety program within the plant. The environmental health and safety program should strive to meet or exceed all regulatory requirements and provide for a safe work environment that is free of hazards. The Senior EHS Specialist will use a behavioral based approach while developing the health and safety program in pursuit of zero work‑related injuries or illnesses.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with all aspects of the Environmental Health and Safety program
Assist in ensuring compliance to all Safe Work Practices (SWP), regulatory standards (EPA, ADEM, OSHA, NFPA, etc.) and plant policies and procedures
Be a valued member of both the Safety and Environmental World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Pillars
Assist with the ISO 14001 requirements and audit process for continued certification
Perform the annual reporting of SARA 313 documents.
Responsible for Title V and water permits.
Assists outside Environmental firms to ensure environmental compliance
Formulate and deliver environmental training presentations and training for both small and large audiences, hourly and salaried
Assist with the delivery of EHS orientation to new and temporary associates
Assist in ensuring proper training and compliance to plant EHS policies and procedures involving contractor / vendor personnel
Conduct proactive environmental surveys and inspections in order to identify potential risks
Perform, document, and trend behavioral-safety observations
Analyze data and perform trending analysis in order to identify and implement corrective actions as well as develop strategic risk mitigation strategies
Assists in providing technical assistance to associates in evaluating new / altered production equipment for potential hazards
Assist in maintaining assorted databases and software programs in support of the EMS/WCM Department and Plant EHS initiatives
Aid in the completion of the Plant’s bi-weekly, monthly and annual reports
Assist in providing oversight to Plant’s hazardous and non-hazardous waste storage, handling and transport program
Help research safety equipment for its application and purchase
Assist in personal protective equipment (PPE) selection and trials as well as to ensure its proper use, maintenance and storage
Serve as an EHS Champion in furthering “Safety First” culture
To be engaged with shop floor supervisors and employees through time on the floor; expected to be at least 50% of time
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Industrial Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Biology, Chemistry or related discipline with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in manufacturing and/or EHS roles
Strong working knowledge of all OSHA and EPA (ADEM) regulations, and experience assisting with visits and audits
Knowledge of SPCC and SWPP Programs and Permits, and NPDES Permits
Knowledge of Environmental Sampling and Record Keeping in regards to SPCC and BMP
Knowledge of Tier II and FORM R reporting, Air permitting, and hazardous waste management
Excellent verbal and written skills to include technical writing
Strong interpersonal and presentations skills are essential
Advanced computer skills are essential – Microsoft Office environment
To be able to work irregular hours including evening and weekends to accommodate the needs of a 24/7 manufacturing operation
Ability to communicate and translate information in Spanish and English
