Overview

Human Resources Generalist-Absence, Insurance, and Learning. This position supports the Office of Human Resources through administrative and analytical responsibilities across key programs and initiatives. The role administers University leave programs (FMLA, Worker’s Compensation, Medical, Parental, etc.), facilitates the interaction process for ADA accommodations, and ensures compliance with employment laws. The HR Generalist also serves as the primary contact for property and liability insurance and claims management, while contributing to employee learning by creating and coordinating professional development opportunities. Acting as both an advisor and subject matter expert, this position supports employees, strengthens organizational learning, and minimizes institutional risk. Equal Employment Opportunity

Absence Administration Interpret and administer leave programs and policies in compliance with federal and state laws (FMLA, Worker’s Compensation, etc.) as well as University policies (Medical, Parental, etc.). Facilitate the interactive process to determine reasonable accommodations under the ADA, ensuring employee needs are met. Counsel and educate employees on leave policies, procedures, and programs; communicate eligibility status. Coordinate and manage all medical documentation, maintaining strict compliance with HIPAA and privacy standards. Serve as the Absence Administrator in Workday, ensuring accurate processing and recordkeeping. Manage all administrative aspects of leave claims, collaborating with Payroll and departmental timekeepers to ensure accuracy. Enter, update, and monitor leave records, including accruals and eligibility forecasting. Partner with the Benefits Administrator to arrange benefit premium payments for employees on unpaid leave. Generate reports, metrics, and analytics for all leave programs as requested. Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and record retention standards. Monitor and research changes to applicable laws (FMLA, HIPAA, ADA, etc.), updating practices accordingly. Property and Casualty Insurance Processing Serve as the principal point of contact and liaison with internal and external constituencies on corporate commercial insurance and claims functions (e.g., general liability, excess liability, auto insurance, UAV insurance, property insurance, educators’ legal liability insurance, liquor liability, Workers Compensation, etc.). Process and/or assist with the processing of all corporate insurance claims. Process and/or assist in the preparation and submission of all insurance renewal applications, reports, invoices, etc. Learning and Employee Engagement Serve as a Learning Content Creator in Workday, developing professional development opportunities for employees. Lead the coordination of an annual learning plan, collaborating with Content Creators and stakeholders to align with organizational needs. Support employees by providing engagement opportunities developed in collaboration with campus partners. Other Generalist Functions Conduct candidate sessions as part of the University’s employment process, in coordination with other HR staff. Assist with background checks, motor vehicle reports, and other new-hire processes. Gather information, research, and report on compliance-related employment law issues as requested. Conduct surveys or polls on HR-related topics and prepare reports with recommendations. Perform other duties as assigned. Position Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; current and relevant experience may be substituted for degree. Experience:

Minimum three years of experience in absence administration or related HR functions. Experience in higher education HR is highly preferred. Computer Skills:

Experience in Workday or other modern ERP system required; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Certifications and Licenses:

HR certifications (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, ARM) preferred.
