Position Overview
Bayless Elementary School, one of the most diverse elementary schools in the state per capita and a National School of Character, is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and collaborative leader to serve as its next Principal. The ideal candidate will be a visible presence in classrooms and hallways, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be a strong instructional leader who can support and coach staff while maintaining high expectations for teaching and learning. The Principal will work to strengthen and sustain a culture of continuous growth and shared purpose by building strong relationships and fostering trust, supporting innovation in teaching, and maintaining high expectations for academic and behavioral excellence.
Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the Superintendent, the Principal will provide visionary and instructional leadership that ensures all students achieve at high levels in a supportive, inclusive environment. The Principal will oversee all aspects of the school’s educational programs, operations, and personnel management in alignment with district goals and Board policies. This role calls for a leader who brings people together, values every voice, and fosters a welcoming environment for all students and staff.
Essential Functions
Lead with visibility by being actively present in classrooms, hallways, and school events to foster strong relationships with students, staff, and families
Establish and uphold strong, consistent schoolwide expectations that promote a positive, safe, and inclusive environment for all students
Support teachers through instructional coaching, data‑driven decision making, and ongoing professional learning
Cultivate a positive, inclusive school culture where every student feels known, valued, and supported
Collaborate with staff to design engaging, rigorous instruction that meets student needs
Communicate effectively and transparently with families, staff, and the broader community to maintain trust and continue to build strong partnership
Recruit, develop, evaluate, and retain staff members to ensure a culture of growth, collaboration, and accountability
Celebrate successes, model integrity and empathy, and lead the school community in alignment with Bayless values and district goals
Other related tasks or responsibilities as assigned by district leadership, as designated by the Superintendent
Ensure the safety and supervision of students, staff, and visitors during emergency situations, including fire drills, lockdowns, evacuations, and other life safety situations
Serve as the primary point of contact for emergency response and coordinate with local authorities and district leaders as needed
Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of district and building emergency procedures and ensure staff are trained accordingly
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy
Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts
Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation and staff supervision
Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education
Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed
Ability to move throughout a large school building and grounds multiple times daily, including climbing stairs and walking long distances
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents
Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints
Ability to engage in self‑evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work
Position Qualifications Education: Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university, preferably in School Administration or Educational Leadership. Experience: Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience, and three years of successful administrative or supervisory experience at the elementary level required.
