Position Description:

A Personal Insurance team member responsible for processing core functions through the underwriting lifecycle. The employee will be the primary point of contact for all renewal business throughout the unit, including endorsement referrals and inspection disputes. The Senior Underwriting Technician will work with underwriters to ensure underwriting is conducted within standards and timeframes, analyzing renewal business to maintain profitability and manage loss ratios. This role works under moderate supervision and interacts daily with individuals from other departments and brokers.

Job Responsibilities

Assist the underwriter in reviewing renewal business to ensure the best risks are maintained and non‑profitable business is non‑renewed or appropriately mitigated.

Prioritize the renewal work queue to maintain renewal issuance standards and timeliness.

Evaluate policies and endorsements against prescribed criteria to determine if risk qualifies for acceptance; verify and rate renewal business; investigate inconsistencies; and develop information for underwriters to isolate problems.

Analyze current policy data—including billing, inspection reports, and loss runs—to make educated decisions on PCS renewal business.

Communicate with brokers to ensure mutual understanding and resolve problems related to rating, coverage, billing, and underwriting requirements.

Establish effective broker relationships and demonstrate customer focus; visit selected brokers as required.

Liaise between the broker and underwriter to ensure needs are being met.

Act within designated authority to transact business and obtain appropriate authority for risks that exceed limits.

Participate in special projects as needed.

Understand and adhere to authority guidelines.

Ensure policies and accounts are thoroughly documented for compliance.

Adhere to department standards and objectives.

Position Requirements

2–5 years of Personal Lines Property & Casualty Insurance underwriting experience or relevant professional experience.

Property & Casualty Licensure required or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire.

Developing knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures.

Analytical and quantitative skills.

Ability to work in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment, adapting to changing requirements and collaborating with a wide range of colleagues to deliver solutions quickly.

Detail‑oriented with demonstrated ability to self‑direct, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.

Takes initiative on projects and assignments, seeking alternate solutions when necessary.

Highly motivated and results‑oriented.

Positive, energetic, self‑motivated, and possessing strong interpersonal skills.

Microsoft Excel knowledge.
