Rutgers University – New Jersey Medical School, Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics is hiring a Research Associate II to perform structure‑function studies of bacterial regulatory proteins under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
Job Overview The successful candidate will collect data, prepare reports for peer‑reviewed publications and conference presentations, contribute to grant writing, and prepare figures.
Key Responsibilities
Perform molecular biology, structural biology, X‑ray crystallography, cryo‑EM, and genetic research independently or as assigned related to bacterial protein structure‑function, reporting results, recommendations and conclusions.
Determine 3‑dimensional structures of proteins, protein‑protein, and protein‑small molecule complexes using X‑ray crystallography and cryo‑EM.
Express and purify proteins using bacterial systems, SDS‑PAGE, western blotting, co‑immunoprecipitation, and chromatographic separation (FPLC).
Characterize proteins using circular dichroism, surface plasmon resonance (Biacore), microscale thermophoresis, and isothermal titration calorimetry.
Isolate RNA/DNA, design and construct expression vectors, perform PCR, site‑directed mutagenesis, and develop enzymatic assays suitable for medium‑ and high‑throughput screening.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Structural Biology, or equivalent scientific field, or a Master’s degree plus three (3) years of related research experience.
