Dwight-Englewood School is seeking an Assistant Upper School Robotics Coach for the 25-26 School Year.

Job Title Assistant Upper School Robotics Coach

Season Duration September 2025 – March 2026

Schedule Practice: Monday through Friday, 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM (School Days)

Competitions / Scrimmages: 1–2 weekend day(s) per month (Saturday or Sunday), full-day events, typically 8–12 hours

Position Summary Our Assistant High School Robotics Coach helps to lead and mentor our Upper School students through the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) season. Coaches guide students through the engineering design process as they build and compete with a custom designed robot for the new year’s challenge. Additionally, the coach will work with students on the non-technical aspects of the competition, including mentorship, presentation skills, and the Engineering Portfolio. This role requires a passion for STEM education, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to student development.

Key Responsibilities

Facilitate after-school practices, ensuring a productive and safe learning environment

Cultivate an inclusive and collaborative team culture that encourages student leadership, teamwork, and creative problem-solving

Provide instruction and support in key technical areas, including mechanical design, CAD, and Java-based programming

Assist with team logistics, including competition registration, inventory management, and travel planning

Support and guide student team members in mentoring roles, as they assist younger students within the Upper School program, or students within our partner Middle School and Lower School programs

Guide students in developing their Engineering Portfolio and presentation skills

Ensure compliance with FIRST Tech Challenge rules and safety standards

Supervise and guide students at robotics team competitive events

Qualifications

Experience in robotics, engineering, computer science, or a related field

Familiarity with high school robotics programs, preferably FTC or other FIRST programs

Ability to work with students in a mentoring capacity

Strong organizational and communication skills

Preferred Skills

Knowledge of Java programming and (preferably) FTC Software Development Kit

Experience with CAD software (e.g., Fusion 360)

Understanding of the engineering design process

Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems

Salary $425 per pay period with semimonthly payments through June 2026.
