Assistant Director - Early Childhood Education
Karter Schools is a growing early childhood network serving families across Northern Virginia. Our classrooms combine warmth, structure, and Montessori-inspired learning to help every child thrive. We pair nurturing care with strong operations so teachers can focus on children and families feel at home. We’re building a leadership bench and this Assistant Director role is designed for someone ready to grow into a future Center Director.
Who You Are: You are a people-first leader who balances empathy with excellence. You love creating joyful, safe, and high-performing school environments and thrive on helping both teachers and families succeed.
You Bring:
2–3+ years
of experience in a licensed childcare or preschool setting
Prior
leadership or supervisory experience
(assistant director, lead teacher, or similar)
Strong knowledge of
Virginia licensing standards , ratios, and safety protocols
The ability to
coach and mentor educators
while maintaining accountability
A calm, professional communication style with parents and staff
Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development
or
Montessori Certified
What You’ll Do:
Lead Daily Operations:
Manage ratios, schedules, licensing compliance, safety checks, and readiness standards.
Coach & Grow Educators:
Support hiring, onboarding, classroom observations, and professional development.
Champion Family Experience:
Communicate proactively, lead tours, and strengthen relationships with families.
Support School Growth:
Partner with the Director on budgeting, enrollment, and resource management.
Model Safety & Quality:
Maintain a beautiful, compliant, Montessori-inspired environment.
