GPLA, part of the DPR Family of Companies, is a leading firm in structural engineering. We are seeking a talented Senior Structural Technical Manager to join our dynamic team.
Job Overview As a vital member of the engineering team, you will oversee technical development, training, and project execution. You will lead design activities, establish quality controls, drive technological advances, and mentor a growing group of structural designers and engineers.
Responsibilities
Mentor and manage Structural Designers I & II, Structural Design Engineers, Structural Project Engineers, Project Managers, and Technical Managers.
Assist in the management and production of drawings, specifications, and calculations from conceptual design to construction documents under project managers.
Review deliverables to ensure scope and quality standards are met throughout the project life cycle.
Establish and enforce quality control measures to ensure accurate, reliable, and integrated engineering deliverables.
Develop and oversee structural designs and analytical models for various building types and materials.
Conduct and review calculations, analyses, and implement company engineering procedures to ensure structural integrity and code compliance.
Utilize CAD software (Tekla Structures and other tools) to create 2‑D drawings and 3‑D models.
Collaborate with and help manage team members to meet project deadlines and deliver high‑quality design solutions.
Stay current with industry trends, code updates, and advancements in structural design techniques.
Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost optimization, and efficiency enhancements.
Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to team members.
Champion shared leadership values and ensure alignment with company culture and project success.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Lead the engineering team, ensuring compliance with industry standards and internal procedures.
Foster a collaborative environment that encourages growth and technical proficiency.
Required Skills and Abilities
In‑depth knowledge of structural engineering principles, codes, and standards.
Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking skills.
Strong verbal and written communication for stakeholder collaboration.
Proficiency with CAD software and structural analysis tools.
Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on industry trends and regulatory changes.
Proficiency in project management, including planning, scheduling, and budget oversight.
Education and Experience
Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a Structural focus.
Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred.
Five years of experience in the building structural engineering field; collective experience of fifteen years is preferred.
Ability to maintain an NCEES record for licensure.
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit or stand at a desk and work at a computer for extended periods.
Ability to travel to project sites across the country.
Minimum lifting capacity of 15 pounds, if necessary.
