Job Summary
The Director oversees the Center for Teaching & Learning while promoting a campus culture that values teaching excellence and constant learning. The Director provides leadership to ensure that faculty are supported as they develop courses and instructional content across all formats. This work includes managing learning management systems, instructional technologies, and advising on course design and delivery.
Essential Duties: Directs, supervises, and evaluates departmental staff. Oversees effective use of learning technologies, including traditional tools, web-based solutions, artificial intelligence, and hardware (ex. cameras). Works with other Academic Affairs & Workforce Development leaders to align courses with student learning and modality needs. Partners with academic leaders to ensure faculty development, course observations, and continuous improvement. Helps faculty and staff apply effective instructional methods to courses and professional development offerings, regardless of format. Ensures application of quality and accessibility standards to course design. Oversees LMS administration, including upgrades, maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical support for students, faculty, and staff. Coordinate with the Technology Services department to guarantee that students, faculty, and staff maintain optimal access to the LMS and other instructional technologies during course sessions. Oversees development of training materials on the LMS and instructional technologies for students, faculty, and staff. Collaborates with senior leadership to create policies, procedures, and documentation that supports compliance with accreditation standards, state authorization, and other federal or state requirements. Develops departmental goals and objectives to support College goals and assesses and reports on outcomes through the College's program review cycle. Plans yearly budget request and approves department's financial decisions. Serves on College committees and teams focused on teaching and learning, student success, and employee professional development. Coordinates with the NC Community College System's Distance Learning office, the regional Teaching and Learning hub, relevant professional groups, and instructional technology vendors. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, or related field Two years of teaching experience Preferred Qualifications
College teaching experience that includes various modalities Experience with instructional design and employee training Experience managing an LMS
