Our client is a leading provider of innovative power and communication solutions for harsh and hazardous environments. Their North Tazewell facility plays a critical role in manufacturing and delivering high-performance products to support industries such as mining, tunneling, and industrial operations. We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Buyer/Planner to join their growing team.
Position Summary The Buyer/Planner is responsible for the procurement of materials, components, equipment, and services, while also planning and scheduling production requirements to support on-time delivery and operational efficiency. This role plays a key part in managing supply chain activities, ensuring production continuity, and optimizing inventory levels through effective planning and supplier coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Source, negotiate, and purchase raw materials, components, and services aligned with quality, cost, and lead time objectives.
Maintain supplier relationships and performance, including cost reduction and delivery improvement initiatives.
Manage RFQs, evaluate bids, and award contracts based on total cost of ownership.
Ensure compliance with company purchasing policies and ethical standards.
Production Planning – Develop and manage production schedules based on MRP/ERP output, sales forecasts, and customer requirements.
Monitor material availability and proactively address shortages or delays to minimize production downtime.
Adjust schedules to meet changing demand, using planning tools like Kanban, JIT, and Blanket POs.
Coordinate with engineering, operations, and inventory control teams to align materials and capacity.
Data Management & Systems – Maintain accurate supplier, item, and planning data in ERP system.
Monitor and update lead times, safety stocks, and reorder points.
Reconcile purchase order discrepancies with receiving and finance.
Cross-Functional Support – Collaborate with operations, engineering, and finance to resolve issues impacting supply or production.
Participate in continuous improvement and lean initiatives to drive process efficiencies.
Lead or support special projects related to resourcing, cost savings, or planning improvements.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
3+ years of experience in buying and/or planning within a manufacturing environment.
Strong working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar).
Demonstrated negotiation and vendor management skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in electronics or industrial manufacturing environments.
APICS CPIM or CSCP certification is a plus.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
