Job Summary
The Corporate Bookmaking team at Penguin Random House is seeking a Managing Editorial Assistant to support the Random House Publishing Group, working on the Random House Worlds and Disney Editions imprints across illustrated and non‑illustrated titles. The role will provide administrative and project support on a wide variety of licensed fiction and nonfiction titles, including Star Wars, Dungeons & Dragons, and Marvel, and featuring bestselling authors such as Alexander Freed, John Jackson Miller, Mike Chen, George R. R. Martin, R.A. Salvatore, Margaret Weis, and Tracy Hickman. Managing editors track schedules for manuscripts and cover designs and schedule seasonal meetings to ensure each manuscript becomes a finished book. The assistant will serve as a point of contact with various departments across Random House Worlds, including Editorial, Production, Interior Design, Cover Art, Production Editorial, Marketing, and Sales.
Responsibilities
Sets and manages deadlines for manuscripts and cover copy.
Routes cover copy and jackets to other departments for approval.
Assists with trade paperback conversions.
Maintains data in SAP and FileMaker Pro databases as needed.
Reviews reprint titles and processes cover and/or interior corrections with reprint deadlines in mind.
Processes ebook corrections.
Provides general administrative support to the Managing Editorial department.
Qualifications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Exceptional proofreading skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Superb organizational and time‑management skills
Ability to prioritize tasks, take initiative, and follow up with colleagues
Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style (plus)
Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat Pro, FileMaker Pro, Lytho, and/or SAP (plus)
Salary & Benefits The salary for this position is $51,000.00. All positions are currently eligible for an annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results. Location & Work Arrangement This is a hybrid position with in‑office responsibilities. Eligible candidates must be able to work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri‑state area (NJ, CT, & PA).
