The Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine Department of Neurology has a rich tradition in academic neurology with a national reputation in neurological education and neuroscience research.

The department is located in the Indiana University Health Neuroscience Center, a state‑of‑the‑art outpatient center that unites all the specialties that involve nervous system disorders – Neurology, Neurosurgery, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Neuropsychology, and Neuroradiology.

It also houses the main outpatient Neurophysiology laboratory at IU Health.

The adjoining IU School of Medicine Neurosciences Research Building enables clinicians, basic scientists, and clinician‑scientists to collaborate in an environment that is rarely achieved in academic medicine.

The epilepsy laboratory of Makram Obeid, MD investigates the mechanisms of seizure emergence and their effects on cognitive and behavioral neurodevelopment in rodent seizure models.

The Obeid Lab focuses on investigating the mechanisms of epileptogenesis in immature animal seizure models.

The primary goal is to identify molecular targets for novel treatment strategies that can prevent seizures and the accompanying neurodevelopmental behavioral deficits.

The laboratory employs a variety of electrophysiological, behavioral, and molecular techniques to answer research questions.
