About the Role

The Consumer & Growth Science team at Uber Eats is on a mission to deeply understand our users and shape the future of how they discover, shop, and engage on the platform. We tackle high-impact, cross‑functional projects—from defining customer segmentation and modeling shopping behavior to guiding incentive strategy and optimizing the conversion funnel. As a Staff Scientist, you’ll be at the center of these efforts, driving clarity on Uber Eats’ toughest questions and shaping decisions that influence millions of consumers across multiple lines of business. What You’ll Do

Lead the scientific agenda across the Uber Eats shopping funnel, identifying key questions, designing learning plans, and translating insights into strategic direction. Conduct advanced analyses—including behavioral modeling, causal inference, and experiment design—to uncover how users engage with the platform and how our systems should respond. Collaborate with cross‑functional partners in Product, Engineering, Operations, and Marketing to influence priorities and ensure insights are integrated into product roadmaps. Serve as a thought partner to senior leadership, providing clear, principled guidance on trade‑offs that span short‑vs‑long‑term growth and multiple lines of business. Jump into high‑priority initiatives, providing scientific support and thought leadership on ambiguous or high‑impact questions. Basic Qualifications

Ph.D., or M.S. in Statistics, Economics, Machine Learning, Operations Research, or other quantitative fields. Minimum 4 years of industry experience in data science, analytics, or a related quantitative field, with a strong track record of impact in consumer technology or marketplace environments. Expertise in applied statistics, causal inference, and experimentation, with hands‑on experience analyzing large‑scale behavioral data to drive product or business decisions. Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in fast‑paced, ambiguous environments with direct exposure to senior executives or C‑level stakeholders. Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive cross‑functional alignment through compelling insights, storytelling, and strategic thinking. Demonstrated success driving long‑term strategic thinking while balancing short‑term business goals in a consumer‑facing or marketplace product. Familiarity with Uber Eats' lines of business (e.g., Restaurants, Grocery, Alcohol) and an understanding of multi‑side marketplace dynamics. Strong mentorship and leadership skills, with a track record of elevating scientific standards and growing junior talent across teams. Base salary range: USD$212,000–USD$235,500 per year for New York, NY‑ and San Francisco, CA‑based roles. All U.S. locations: eligible to participate in Uber’s bonus program, may receive equity award and other types of compensation, and are eligible for various benefits.
