Position Summary The Electrical Designer is a high-level technical role responsible for driving electrical project delivery and engineering quality across large and complex projects. This individual is an electrical system expert, Revit authority, and go-to mentor within the discipline. They guide project teams through all design phases, resolve complex coordination challenges, and ensure quality and consistency across documentation.

Essential Functions

Lead the production and coordination of full electrical design packages for large-scale or highly complex projects.

Standardize Revit workflows across teams and lead development of firmwide modeling resources, families, and templates.

Resolve advanced technical modeling challenges and mentor staff in efficient BIM strategies for electrical systems.

Review and approve project documentation for compliance with code, performance objectives, and client requirements.

Author and edit electrical project narratives, design briefs, and owner-facing documents with minimal oversight.

Integrate multiple complex systems across disciplines; resolve electrical system conflicts with other discipline teams.

Perform advanced electrical system analysis, including lifecycle assessments, decarbonization strategies, and code interpretations.

Lead project lighting simulation or energy modeling coordination to inform electrical system decisions.

Develop and implement firm tools for electrical load calculations, system sizing, and code compliance checking.

Define project design strategies, workflows, and milestone deliverables in collaboration with engineers and project managers.

Independently scope and plan project phases, including resourcing and delegation across disciplines and offices.

Ensure technical delivery aligns with project budgets, schedules, and quality expectations.

Provide cross-project mentorship in system design, QAQC strategies, and advanced documentation techniques.

Guide emerging designers and engineers in technical decision-making and problem-solving approaches.

Develop structured onboarding or training content for new electrical staff or designers.

Model team collaboration and delegate electrical design work strategically to grow others’ confidence and capability.

Lead technical segments of client and consultant meetings related to electrical systems, including design presentations and technical decision-making forums.

Communicate clearly and confidently about technical decisions, trade-offs, and performance metrics with diverse audiences.

Lead/oversee construction administrative duties as needed for assigned projects (bid review, plan review comment responses, RFI responses, submittal reviews, field observations, punch list and owner pay application progress reviews).

Influence client and project partner expectations around technical scope, documentation quality, and system performance.

Travel to client meetings, existing buildings or construction sites on occasion (local once per week during certain phases, overnight once or twice per month).

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a directly related field or equivalent experience required.

Professional licensure preferred.

Familiarity with California HCAI/OSHPD agency processes and requirements preferred.

Experience with Kaiser Permanente projects preferred.

10+ years of experience in the AEC industry preferred.

Strong written and verbal communication skills commensurate with the position required.

Strong organizational skills preferred.

Revit experience required.

Experience with computers (word processing, spreadsheet use/creation, and email) required.

Detail-oriented, self‑motivated, enthusiastic, flexible and curious personalities required.

Ability to work well with others under deadline situations required.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to navigate active construction sites including climbing ladders to observe existing conditions and construction progress.

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must effectively communicate in writing and verbally via phone, video conferencing, and in-person.

Visual acuity to perform responsibilities.
