Senior-Level Electrical Designer – Kiewit Power Engineering
We are seeking Senior and Lead Electrical Designers to join our innovative Power Engineering team. There is a surge in demand for Power across North America due to factors reshaping the energy landscape, such as electrification, data center growth, increased cooling needs, decarbonization efforts, and alternative energy solutions. District Overview Our rapidly growing Power district, which includes structural, civil, piping, mechanical, process, process safety, electrical, instrument and control disciplines, is a multi‑faceted division of Kiewit with best‑in‑class technical expertise focused on the EPC delivery model for power facilities.

Location These roles offer a hybrid schedule and can be based out of any of our regional offices, including Lenexa (KS), Lone Tree (CO), Houston (TX), Detroit (MI), Phoenix (AZ), Chattanooga (TN), Charlotte (NC), Raleigh (NC), Boston (MA), Woodcliff Lake (NJ), or New York City (NY). Remote flexibility is also available.
Responsibilities
Lead projects and teams, delivering electrical designs and 3D models for power generation projects, using SmartPlant3D and Navisworks, and applicable engineering national and local codes.
Execute electrical design including component and complete system layouts—duct bank, embedded conduit, cable tray, grounding and lighting systems—from concept to completion using engineering documents, sketches, or vendor data.
Generate raceway, lighting and power plans, sections, P&IDs, and perspective drawings from the 3D model.
Manage schedule, scope, budgets, and forecasts for assigned projects; lead team meetings and report progress and issues to the project lead team.
Coordinate with project team using the Project Database: Request for Review Process, Holds List, ECN, Request for Information from other disciplines, and other applicable functions.
Develop 3D models using drawings, sketches, and design skills; check for interferences and constructability; mentor junior staff.
Route electrical cables in a 3D environment to generate cable schedules; model electrical components using vendor submittals and designs.
Perform calculations to check allowable fill in conduits and cable tray systems according to NEC requirements and size pull boxes.
Gather information to verify voltage separation requirements are met.
Create plan drawings and details for electrical deliverables.
Analyze, inspect, and construct designs while adhering to electrical quality standards and department procedures.
Check design for consistency, safety, operability, and maintenance requirements before submission.
Resolve checked drawings; prove and understand comments.
Complete miscellaneous tasks to support project development.
Act as a field resource to assist construction in field resolution of issues.
Qualifications
10+ years’ experience in electrical component and systems design, with recent experience in Electrical Physical Design (circuit and raceway) in Power or heavy industry.
Highly proficient with 3D modeling, preferably SmartPlant3D; other CAD tools considered if experienced in Power or Oil & Gas electrical systems.
Experience in power generation electrical design preferred.
Execution of 3D modeling for component and complete system layouts—including duct bank, embedded conduit, cable tray, grounding and lighting systems—from concept to completion.
Experience generating raceway, lighting and power plans, sections, P&IDs, and perspective drawings from the 3D model.
Manage schedule, scope, budgets, forecasts; lead team meetings and report progress to the project lead team.
Ability to work in a fast‑paced, multi‑discipline team environment and lead others on a project.
Experience with budgeting, scheduling, and forecasting required for Lead Electrical Designers.
Independent work capability with limited direction and oversight.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to mentor junior designers.

Base Compensation: $104,000/yr – $150,000/yr (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to education, experience, skillset, and/or location).
