OCS (Overhead Contact System) Engineer – North American Infrastructure Group – Seattle, WA Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated OCS Engineer to join our North American Infrastructure group in the Rail Systems team. The ideal candidate is a results‑driven engineering professional with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. Candidates must be detail‑oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

As a Successful Candidate, You Will

Design OCS layout, wire tensions, foundations, poles/columns/structures for light rail, commuter rail and streetcar with pantograph as well as streetcar and electrified buses with trolley poles.

Coordinate with other engineers for systems integration and design.

Prepare design reports.

Develop documents including specifications, drawings and cost estimates.

Review project submittals and requests for information from contractors.

Provide installation, testing and commissioning support to clients.

Manage OCS projects.

You Bring To The Role

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil or mechanical engineering.

Relevant experience may be considered as a substitute for degree requirements.

1 to 3 years of experience with DC OCS systems design, including the design of 600 to 1500‑volt DC rail or 12 to 25 kilovolt AC rail systems.

Thorough understanding of the National Electrical Safety Code (NEC) and local codes.

Professional engineer’s license or engineer‑in‑training certificate is an advantage.

Experience with the North American transit/transportation industry is highly desirable.

The Following Skills/Experience Are a Plus

Tension and pole/foundation load calculations

AutoCAD or MicroStation experience.

Experience with structural engineering analysis software like STAAD or RISA.

Field testing of OCS systems.

Knowledge of railway traction power systems.

Project management experience.

Salary: $88,000 (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location).
