Summary/Objective:
Structural Fitters fabricate and join metal plates and shapes, and layout from installation from prints, diagrams, work orders, and/or verbal instructions using hand and powered hand tools, and welding equipment. They must be familiar with OSHA requirements for safety and hot work onboard naval vessels.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Successfully completion of welding qualification requirements using Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) processes.
Setup and adjust various welding equipment and associated accessories.
Ability to interpret and fabricate components using prints, written and/or verbal directions in a shop environment.
Accomplish removals, preparation, and installation of new materials onboard naval vessels.
Familiarity with the workmanship requirements of MIL-STD-1689A, Fabrication, Welding, and Inspection of Ships Structure.

Education / Experience Required:
Must be 18 years old.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Completed a structured welding program.
Must have a valid California driver's license.
Must possess basic skills (reading, writing and mathematical skills).

A plus, previous experience in a ship repair environment.
Understand the Naval Ship Repair requirements and working environment.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position requires 40+ hours of work per week. M-F 0600 - 1430 (or as otherwise assigned by Project Manager) with pre-scheduled overtime as needed.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a shipyard work environment.
Travel:
This position does require ability to travel.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be available to work at heights, confined spaces and have ability to climb staircases and ladders of varying sizes.
May involve carrying objects that weigh up to 50 lbs., frequent stooping, bending, crawling, reaching, and walking.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable)
Completion of a satisfactory background check
Passing a drug test and physical examination
Eligibility to work in the US.
Obtaining DBIDS level security clearance.
OSHA 10 Maritime
