4-H HealthCorps AmeriCorps Program

4-H HealthCorps members lead fun and helpful classes for kids and teens about mental health, emotional health, and substance use prevention. They teach skills like handling stress, building strong friendships, boundaries, and bouncing back from tough times. These lessons help young people grow into confident, healthy adults. Members serve in MSU Extension offices across Michigan, bringing programs to local communities. While serving, members build job skills, learn from real-world experiences, and grow their professional networks. They work closely with families and community leaders, making a real difference in the lives of youth and helping improve overall community health. Members also learn about public health, gain leadership experience, and explore careers in education, health, and community service. It's a great way to give back while building a strong foundation for the future. We are placing members in the following cities. It's best to apply if you live near or can easily travel to one of these locations: Clinton Township, MI Flint, MI Muskegon, MI Negaunee, MI Newberry, MI Pontiac, MI Saint Johns, MI Suttons Bay, MI Traverse City, MI

Member Duties :

AmeriCorps members will teach youth ages 5-18 about mental and emotional health, substance use prevention, and healthy habits through fun, hands-on activities. They'll lead 6-8 week long afterschool clubs based on youth interests, using approved curriculum. Members will also teach lessons in the classroom and may help build new school partnerships. They'll recruit youth to join afterschool clubs, plan and lead sessions, and may have the opportunity to support family events that promote wellness. Members will track attendance of youth attending lessons, collect surveys, and write monthly reports. They'll attend bi-weekly trainings with their cohort and join other MSU Extension and AmeriCorps events. Members may earn certifications in mental health topics and receive one-on-one career coaching.
