Locomotive Paint Prepper

Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company, is partnering with Impact Workforce Solutions to hire a Locomotive Paint Prepper for their manufacturing team in Muncie, Indiana. Using state-of-the-art processes, painters are involved in the sanding, grinding, prepping, masking, taping, applying decals, and spraying of locomotives, railcars and other rail/locomotive components. The paint process covers the interior, exterior, underframes, and truck parts. These coatings vary based on the needs of each customer. Shifts are 3rd shift Sun-Thurs 7:30pm-6am (OT required at this time). Key responsibilities include: safely operating mechanical equipment, following detailed work instructions, working independently, utilizing precision instruments, executing daily inspections, power washing and cleaning railcars and locomotives, conducting sandblasting and surface preparation, mixing and preparing paints and coatings, performing bodywork, touch-ups, and repairs, and monitoring inventory levels. Qualifications include: Skill Level I: 0-1 years of experience without technical education; Skill Level II: 1-2 years of experience or relevant technical certifications; Skill Level III: 2+ years of experience in a similar role; High School Diploma or GED required; comfortable wearing personal protective equipment and complying with safety protocols. Preferred skills include: previous experience in railcar or locomotive painting; technical degree in auto body or related paint programs. Physical requirements include: ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., push and pull up to 150 lbs., frequent bending, crouching, kneeling, and climbing, comfortable working in high-noise, high-dust environments, and confined spaces, must adhere to all safety protocols while working in and around active tracks and equipment.
