The Buyer II is a key contributor to the supply chain team, responsible for the procurement of components, materials, and services used in the design and manufacture of medical devices, including complex electromechanical systems such as particle accelerators. Working closely with engineering, production, quality, and suppliers, the Buyer II ensures that materials are sourced in compliance with regulatory requirements, delivered on time, and meet strict quality standards. This role requires an understanding of supply chain best practices within a regulated, low-volume/high-mix manufacturing environment and reports to the Purchasing Manager. Key Responsibilities Source, quote, negotiate, and place purchase orders for a wide range of commodities including custom machined parts, cable and wire harnesses, PCBs, box builds, precision subassemblies, engineering services, and quick?turn prototypes. Also manage manufacturing support services such as plating, painting, cryogens, and equipment rentals. Ensure materials and services comply with applicable regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485). Identify and assist in qualifying new suppliers, with a focus on medical?grade component vendors. Maintain strong supplier relationships, conduct vendor visits, and support performance?improvement initiatives. Monitor supplier performance on quality, cost, delivery, and service metrics. Collaborate with engineering to support prototype development, resolve part obsolescence, and implement engineering change orders (ECOs). Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders regarding order status, delays, or potential risks. Perform cost analysis, support make/buy decisions, and contribute to cost?reduction initiatives. Expedite orders and manage lead times to ensure uninterrupted production flow. Participate in root?cause and corrective?action processes for non?conforming materials. Maintain purchasing documentation to meet internal quality system and regulatory requirements. Compile and present purchasing metrics and cost?savings data. Support audits and inspections as required.

Education, Training, and Experience

Associates Degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field; or equivalent work experience. 46 years of experience in procurement or supply?chain management within a medical device or other regulated manufacturing environment. Experience with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., Salesforce, Oracle, SAP, NetSuite). Strong working knowledge of FDA, ISO 13485, or other quality management systems is preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace (Excel, Docs, Sheets, etc.). Familiarity with low?volume, high?complexity manufacturing environments. Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.

Physical And Environmental Considerations

Must be able to sit/stand for long periods of time. Typical office and manufacturing environment. Required use of standard office equipment including laptop, phone, copier, etc.
