Your Mission in Action The Lead Medical Coordinator oversees the medical services for unaccompanied children. This role involves delivering comprehensive nursing care to children with various health concerns. The Lead Medical Coordinator will collaborate with program departments and regulatory standards to ensure the best outcome for the child‑care population under the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). Responsibilities include overseeing health services, coordinating provision of timely, appropriate health services, supervising other Medical Coordinators, providing staff training on medical, dental, and public health topics, developing and maintaining policies and procedures for confidential health record management, triage, medical emergency response, environmental health and safety, and post‑release health care planning/co‑ordination.

Responsibilities

Serve as the point of contact with the Division of Health for Unaccompanied Children (DHUC) Medical Team.

Provide nursing care to children, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and educating on various health concerns.

Assess, document, and manage pediatric patients’ health conditions and treatment plans; maintain accurate and detailed child records in compliance with regulatory standards.

Support and enforce infection‑control policies, develop care plans for the medical isolation population following regulatory standards.

Coordinate medical appointments and follow through on medications and treatment as prescribed.

Coordinate and oversee prescribed nutritional needs and diet and fluid intake for UCs as prescribed.

Track all UC Portal medical data and UC medical files, ensuring proper immunization schedules are used in accordance with ORR, DHHS, and TVFC policies; ensure timely reporting of medical incidents.

Track and ensure specialized services such as dental treatment, psychological, psychiatric, family planning, and emergency care are provided to UCs; identify other specialized health services as needed.

Serve as the liaison with medical service providers in the community.

Coach and support staff to ensure they have the necessary tools and resources to optimize performance, achieve operational excellence, and meet program goals.

Communicate with direct program administration to report medical incidents.

Organize and deliver regularly scheduled staff meetings to communicate updates and initiatives.

Collaborate with leadership and the People & Culture Team to arrange training, coordinate in‑service training, interview, hire, and onboard new employees who are a strong cultural fit for Upbring.

Regularly review employee performance, provide developmental feedback, and facilitate growth and development through evaluations and documentation.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with a Bachelor's degree or higher health‑related qualification (e.g., Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner).

One year of employment in public health or a healthcare setting with demonstrated experience in care coordination, health administration, or direct clinical care.

Previous supervisory experience.

Bilingual English and Spanish (speak, read, and write).

Valid TX driver’s license with auto insurance.

Must be 21 years of age or older per licensing requirements.

Ability to build rapport with children and maintain professionalism.

Strong documentation, organizational, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, and UC information systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Two (2) years of nursing experience.

Physical Demands & Work Conditions

This position requires sitting and looking and using a computer for long periods of time, assisting with responding to emergency situations.

Position works in a child facility and has constant exposure to children.

Position requires frequent standing, walking, and time in dormitory where children reside.

Lift, push, pull, move up to 125 lbs.
