Assistant Port Engineer Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Port Engineer to support the technical management of a vessel fleet operating out of Arlington, VA. This entry-level, shoreside position is ideal for recent graduates from U.S. Maritime Academies who are eager to begin their career in vessel maintenance, regulatory compliance, and fleet operations. The role provides valuable exposure to shipyard projects, repair planning, and maritime safety standards, offering a fantastic opportunity to transition from sea to shore and develop your skills under experienced mentors.

Assistant Port Engineer

Responsibilities: Assist Port Engineers and Superintendents with the technical oversight of vessels, including maintenance, repairs, and drydock planning. Support compliance efforts with USCG, ABS, and other regulatory bodies to ensure vessel operational standards are met. Monitor vessel performance, fuel efficiency, and maintenance schedules to optimize operational readiness. Coordinate shipyard projects, working with vendors and contractors to ensure timely completion of repairs and upgrades. Participate in vessel inspections, prepare reports on vessel condition, and identify repair needs. Provide technical and administrative support related to budgeting, spare parts procurement, and inventory management. Contribute to a culture of safety, environmental compliance, and preventive maintenance by following best practices and industry standards. Assistant Port Engineer

Position Requirements:

Bachelor's degree from a U.S. Maritime Academy, preferably with an engineering track. Strong interest in transitioning from shipboard roles to shoreside technical management. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Willingness to learn, adapt, and grow into higher-level management positions. USCG License (3rd Assistant Engineer or higher) preferred but not required. Experience with vessel maintenance, drydock planning, or maritime regulatory compliance. Familiarity with vessel performance monitoring and environmental standards. #LI-Onsite
