JOB SUMMARY:
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for developing and delivering engineering solutions for gas turbine systems and sub-systems. The role includes defining requirements, performing analyses, creating design definitions, and supporting manufacturing and service activities. This position requires strong collaboration across multiple engineering disciplines to ensure product integrity, performance, and compliance with aerospace and industrial standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and deliver engineering solutions for gas turbine systems/sub-systems, including design definition, requirements capture, trade-off studies, and optimisation. Perform analyses such as mechanical, thermal, lifing, vibration, and durability to substantiate component and system integrity. Create and manage detailed design definitions including CAD models, drawings, and model-based definitions. Manage dimensional tolerance stacks and GD&T to ensure accuracy and manufacturability. Support manufacturing, supply chain, and service activities, including supplier documentation review and assessment of non-conforming hardware. Handle design change proposals and support production or field operations. Investigate in-service or development hardware issues through failure analysis, root cause, and corrective action processes. Collaborate across disciplines (systems, aerothermal, materials, manufacturing, testing) and present design solutions to leadership and stakeholders. Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, safety regulations, and best practices in aerospace, defence, or industrial gas turbine contexts. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field. 5+ years of experience in mechanical/component design, preferably in gear systems, rotating equipment, or aerospace applications. Strong experience with gas turbine systems and aerospace design principles. Knowledge of dimensional tolerance analysis, GD&T, and design validation methods. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Competitor experience within the gas turbine or aerospace industry. Master’s or PhD in a relevant engineering discipline (may substitute for experience).
Education:
Bachelors Degree
