The QA Lab Supervisor is responsible for managing the company’s chemical, physical and microbiological testing with the main Quality Control tasks, including external testing. Manages day-to-day activities of analytical and microbiological laboratories in support of routine production and product quality. This position has oversight for data and laboratory systems and scheduling of activities to meet production timelines. Responsibilities
Conduct and oversee laboratory testing, analyses and reporting in a food production facility specific to chemical, physical and microbiological sample prep, testing and reporting in agreement with the QA manager. Direct, manage and train lab personnel Manage equipment operation, calibration and minor maintenance Oversee reagent preparation – chemical and microbiological Interpret and report results Ensure that work is completed timely, efficiently, and that it meets quality standards Anticipate, troubleshoot, and resolve problems and issues quickly Conduct work in a safe manner and abide by all company safety policies Ensure that all Lab employees are using safe practices Perform weekly internal QA audits as assigned by QA Manager; leading IFS, HACCP and food safety requirements in the labs Write, review and approve product-related documents including batch sheets/checklists for production, recipe development, specifications sheets, MSDS, allergen sheets, certificates of analysis Performs other duties as assigned Develops, documents, introduces and trains testing procedures and SOPs for the QC tasks under the guidance of the QA manager Maintains the laboratory including rooms, furniture, installations and equipment Supervises all lab operations and testing procedures and assures compliance with safety requirements Plans, conducts, reviews and supervises all testing and data acquisition outside the lab in accordance with production or site management and in agreement with the QA manager Plans and organizes external testing with commercial labs, including evaluation and documentation/reporting of the results Selects and orders laboratory materials and instruments and follows up expenditures against the planned budget Has knowledge and understands OSHA, HACCP, IFS, ISO and safety requirements within a food manufacturing environment Supports continuous improvement with Allergen Management, Food Defense, Food Fraud, Food Safety Culture and other Food Safety and Quality initiatives Qualifications
Degree (e.g. BSc) in Chemistry, Food Chemistry, Microbiology or closely related scientific field Proven experience in laboratory practice, preferably with management experience Proficiency in analytical methodology and principals Good knowledge in Food Safety and Quality Management Systems and familiarity with the various certification concepts Strong leadership and organizational abilities Direct Reports
