Position Summary
The Quality Manager is responsible for developing, implementing quality systems and procedures to ensure all fabricated products meet or exceed customer specifications at our Manhattan facility. This role will oversee the Quality Technicians in the Powder Coat department and Weld Shop, and will play a critical role in driving continuous improvement, ensuring compliance with ISO and AISC standards, and fostering a culture of quality throughout the manufacturing operation.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Systems Management:
Maintain compliance with the QMS and standards (ISO 9001, AISC, or equivalent).
Ensure all processes, documentation, and quality records are accurate, current, and properly maintained.
Inspection and Testing:
Oversee in‑process and final inspection of fabricated materials, weldments, and powder coating finishes.
Ensure the calibration of measuring devices and equipment.
Ensure adherence to customer drawings, specifications, and tolerances.
Develop and maintain a layered inspection process and support the process across both quality and production leadership.
Non‑Conformance and Corrective Actions:
Investigate non‑conformances and customer complaints; implement root cause analysis and CAPA.
Track and analyze defect trends to reduce rework, scrap, and warranty costs.
Team Leadership and Training:
Supervise quality inspectors, provide direction, training, and performance feedback on a semiannual basis.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement and commitment to PTMW’s core values of Credibility, Accountability, Leadership and Fairness.
Documentation & Reporting:
Prepare and present quality performance reports and metrics to the SVP of Manufacturing and the Director of Quality.
Maintain documentation for audits, certifications, and customer requirements.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent experience).
Minimum 4 years of experience in quality management in fabrication or high‑speed manufacturing.
Strong understanding of ISO 9001, AISC or similar quality standards.
Proficiency with weld standards and engineered drawings.
Experience with inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, CMM, etc.) and quality software (e.g., SPC, ERP/QMS systems).
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and root cause analysis techniques (8D, 5 Whys, FMEA).
Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills.
Preferred certifications:
Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Quality Manager (CQM) – ASQ.
ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor Certification.
