Power Distribution Specialist

The Power Distribution Specialist is a key contributor within Vanderbilt University Maintenance and Operations (VUMO), responsible for operating and maintaining the electrical distribution system powering the university and medical center. The role demands strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and a commitment to system reliability. This position reports to the Power Plant Manager and does not have supervisory responsibilities. VUMO supports construction, renovation, routine maintenance, housekeeping, grounds care, turf care, and utility services across the university's extensive facilities, managing an annual budget exceeding $100 million and over 400 employees. Key Responsibilities:
Testing transformers, breakers, switches, relays, and cables at various voltages Calibrating and replacing relays Sampling and testing transformer oils Testing motor starters, ground loops, gas turbines, and electrical equipment Cleaning switchgear and inspecting cables and equipment in underground vaults Installing and testing electric meters, electrical cables, and conduits Working with electrical engineers, contractors, vendors, and OEM personnel Operating forklifts, bucket trucks, and department vehicles Performing other duties as assigned Supervisory Relationships:
This position does not supervise staff but reports to the Power Plant Manager. Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, including 3 years in high voltage electrical operations Ability to lift 50 pounds Work Hours:
6:30 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with required overtime and weekend work. Additional Details:
