Job Summary The Quality Assurance Nurse performs duties within the scope of practice attributed to the skills of a registered nurse and reports to the Quality Assurance Director. Responsibilities include coordinating and organizing quality assurance and quality improvement activities related to nursing and clinical care, collecting accurate data, evaluating services, providing recommendations, and educating staff.
Essential Job Functions
Attends work on a regular basis, following shift schedules and rotating on‑call as needed.
Obtains and analyzes data using monitoring and audit tools, completing inter‑rater audits.
Prepares reports and data analyses with recommendations for improvement.
Communicates and teaches quality improvement initiatives, providing education to employees, residents, and external monitoring groups.
Participates in or facilitates workgroups, committees, and mortality reviews, tracking recommendations to completion.
Practices professional nursing in compliance with the Nurse Practice Act and agency policies.
Provides treatment to HHS employees injured in the course of employment.
Acts as a supporting role during disaster response, recovery, or Continuity of Operations activation.
Other duties as assigned, including supporting agency obligations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of nursing techniques, standards, and procedures; health care laws and regulations; medical diagnoses and procedures; medical treatment patterns; community health and nursing care principles; program regulations; and utilization review and control measures.
Skill in caring and treating patients.
Knowledge of state and federal laws, nursing care standards, ICF‑IID rules, regulations, and policies related to State Supported Living Centers.
Skills in the use of software and electronic health record systems; preparing and maintaining records.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present ideas clearly and concisely.
Ability to organize, coordinate, and evaluate nursing activities and delivery of health services; recognize patterns of medically necessary treatment.
Ability to plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.
Ability to train staff at all levels.
Ability to make decisions and recommendations to SSLC leadership, including on‑call administrators.
Knowledge of emergency procedures and equipment; ability to assess and care for residents or staff in emergency situations; CPR proficiency.
Licensure, Registration, and Certification Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact.
Initial Screening Criteria
Minimum one (1) year experience as a practicing registered nurse.
Preferred two (2) years experience in a health agency, hospital, or health‑care facility.
Preferred Bachelor’s Degree.
Preferred two (2) years of nursing supervisory/administrative experience.
Preferred quality assurance monitoring experience.
Preferred experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD).
Additional Information Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, and HHS LEIE. Males 18‑25 must register with the Selective Service. All employees are subject to random drug testing. Flexibility for overtime, extended hours, weekends, and holidays is required.
