Job Summary
As a Customs Entry Writer - Team Lead, youll leverage your expertise in U.S. trade regulations to ensure compliant and efficient import Customs brokerage processes while leading a dynamic team. Youll oversee Customs documentation, drive operational excellence, and foster a collaborative, high-energy environment. This is a full-time, in-office position based at our Wood Dale, IL office. Key Responsibilities Review and validate import documents (e.g., commercial invoices, bills of lading, certificates of origin) for compliance with U.S. Customs & Border Protection regulations. Ensure adherence to federal trade laws, including tariff classifications, valuations, and country-of-origin requirements. Oversee timely and accurate submission of Customs declarations, Importer Security Filing (ISF), Post Summary Corrections, and Protests. Coordinate with Customs authorities, importers, truckers, and freight forwarders to streamline operations and resolve compliance issues. Lead, mentor, and train team members, fostering a positive, team-oriented culture through collaboration and participation in company events. Monitor team performance, ensuring deadlines are met and processes are optimized in a fast-paced environment. Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and compliance.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in Customs brokerage, import compliance, or international logistics, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role. Customs Broker license required. In-depth knowledge of U.S. Customs Service regulations, Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), and other compliance standards. Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic setting. Proven leadership and mentoring skills with a track record of building strong team dynamics. Bachelors degree in supply chain management, international business, or related field (or equivalent experience). Strong communication and relationship-building skills with internal teams and external partners. Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with a passion for continuous learning and tackling challenges.
